Hi Charley.
I read about Jacob last night...I hope he will be alright. :grouphug:
I'm curious about which side of the road the dog was from...your side or mine?
Sending lots of pixie dust to you and Jacob. :wizard: pixiedust: :tink:

I hope you and Jacob will still be able to go to WDW and have fun for Halloween.

Take care. PM me if you like.

The dog that viciously attacked Jacob was from my side of the road. He received over 100 stitches and now needs physio. He is very frightened of Rotties, German shepards or anything that resembles these dogs!

These dogs need to be banned.....After the damage he caused and surreal fact that he would have killed my child is enough to warn people these dogs are dangerous! This dog was only 18 months. Never attacked before. Animal control and doctors and myself included know dog would have killed Jacob if the other 10 year old hadn't the presence of mind to beat the dog over the head with the dirt bike helmet he was wearing. He put his own life at risk to save his friend. Someone needs to give this kid a metal!

We leave for Jacob's swim with the dolphins and Disney is 43 days. Hope he can move his arm better, He is in physio. Dog tore his arm to the bone exposing muscles and bone, when the dog started dragging my child. Gosh knows where the dog was dragging him. Dog weighed over 110 pds. Jacob just 62 pds...

Still very angry. Can't get the images of my torn up child begging for 911 and asking why me. He is sick already and spents so much time in hospital. He nevers questions why....except that time. All I could say was Bad things happen to good people!

What can you say? God hates you???

CharleyAnn, that is just horrible! :sad2:
I can't imagine the fear he must have been going thru!
I hope he recovers from his wounds quickly and he can enjoy his trip to Disney. Just tell him how quickly the trip is coming up and maybe that will help him feel better.

Thank you for your kind words. Jacob spent 5 days in hospital. We couldn't even do his chest physio for his cystic fibrosis. There was nowhere to position him that wouldn't hurt him. He was in horrific pain! Wish this for no other innocent child / adult . He didn't know what came after him. Pulled him off his bicycle and knocked him to the ground ripping first his buttocks. Then flipped my little guy on his back and climbed on his chest! Ripped his chest to his hips with claw marks still visable today. If that wasn't enough for that dog, he went for face. Jacob used his hands and arms as shield. He thought the dog was going to kill him! Mercifully, he went into shock after that. The dog, then proceeded to chew his arm and drag him! Jacob took 25 bites alone to one hand. He is still having nightmares and is afraid to go outside.

What ticks :furious: me off more is the fact, that in rural New Brunswick, you don't have to tie a dog! That's correct folks.....you can own a dangerous dog and it can attack and you can still let it loose! :confused3

Chances are you won't even be fined for the attack of your dog! This is very seldom used in New Brunswick. The politician's in the midst of election, they don't want to talk about it!

What happened to the dog? Was it put down?

Marilynn

The dog was put down Thursday night. Believe it or not the owners were disputing it. They wanted to take the dog back to Alberta. Animal Control had to go to the prosecutors to get a order to keep the darn Dog here in New Brunswick, until Oct 13th, 2006, when a judge would determine whether the dog should live, be rehabilitated or sent back to owners!

My little boy was going to be forced to testify. If it wasn't enough what their dog did...but to then make a child go to court and relive the nightmare! In the end with the help of media, and the treat of criminal charges, the owners agreed to put the animal down.

I'm so sorry, Charleyann. Lots of :grouphug: and pixiedust: to Jacob and a big :cheer2: for his friend. Here's hoping the days go by quickly, so that your family can enjoy the Magic that a trip to WDW brings.

I just went to the CTV website and found the report about the attack. Gosh, that's so horrible (and I love dogs...all kinds.) Jacob's a brave little kid and so is his quick thinking best friend. I'm thinking positive thoughts that you and Jacob will be in WDW and with the dolphins.

So sorry to hear about Jacob. He's one tough kid. I hope he will be able to enjoy everything on his upcoming trip with you.
I am shocked that you dont' have to tie up a dog in the rural area!!! :faint: I can't imagine letting "Silly Dawg", our German Shephard, run loose. I love him too much to take a chance of loosing him because he hurt a person or someone's pet, or he never made it back home again. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if he hurt some other living thing.
In some cases, the owner is as much as fault as the dog. As a pet owner I take responsiblity of what my dog does. So we went to training school and obedience classes
I am not defending the dog. I am relieved to hear it was put to sleep. Maybe the next person who was attacked, would have been killed. I hope these people will not be allowed to own another dog.

Please keep in touch and let us know how Jacob is doing. I hope he can keep his spirits up and look forward to your upcoming trip.

Your right, responsibility of dogs comes down to the owners! That is why I wanted them held accountable in a court of law. The people babysitting this dog were less then desirable dog owners as well. They have many times had pitbulls and rotties picked up by animal control and had to pay pound charges for getting them back. Holy cow.....those breeds are intimidating when they come running after you, even if they are just barking. People are scared to walk!

Those people too had a pitbull that came out to what we all think was to join the attack. Thank God for Jacob it was sick and left when it was kicked! It died two days later. One dog less we have to worry about in this neighborhood.

The owners told doctors and babysitters and told us , this dog had all it shots up-to-date including rabbies. They said they would provide documentation. Well, there was no Shots up-to-date and there no documentation the next day from the Vet supporting this. Those owners showed no mercy for Jacob once again. They placed him further in harm's way by lying.....Holy cow if that dog had Rabbies when he bite Jacob, he had no chance, because we didn't go with Rabbie treatment for Jacob based on what we were told and promised by the owners!

A dog law need to be enforced straight across the province, holding dog owners criminally responsible for dogs and their attacks. Inaddition, they need to enforce HIGH registration fee for owners with Dangerous DOGS and if they have had a dog that has attacked in the past, then they should be banned from owning another! There is no law preventing a dog owner from getting another Dangerous dog, when they have had one that has killed a human or animal!

Furthermore, the owners walk away with no accountability. They denied animal control the right to put the animal down. They were going to force my child to relive this and testify in court in Oct hearing to put the dog down. They lied about the shots. They were suppose to come back months ago and pick the dog up and take it with them to Alberta, where they had moved 4 moves ago. They claimed, when they were getting ready to put the dog on the plane, it was too big for it's kennel and Air Canada denied it. The truth was it didn't have it shots! The baysitters felt sorry agreed to watch the dog for a month. Four months later.....

Now, we have to sue the Babysitters and neighbors for damages. NOT the owners who lied and lied again!

C :furious: :furious: :furious:

SORRY FOR RANTING

Charleyann,
This is a nightmare for you and Jacob. I am astounded they lied about the shots!! And I am angry they didn't care enough about their dog to get him the shots. They shouldn't be allowed to have a dog.

I think we need stricter rules in the rural areas for having dogs as pets.

I am glad to hear you will be sueing. I do not feel bad about the dogsitters. If you are going to look after a dog, it becomes your responsibliity. The dog could have easily bit one of the sitters. They should have found out if the dog had it's shots.

How is Jacob doing? Is he still looking forward to going to Disney? Maybe by going away it will help to put some of this behind him.

Take care and stay in touch.
