Okay, so the convenience of being able to charge with the onsite room key is an awesome convenience, however, what if someone loses their room key? Can anyone pick it up and charge with it?? Has anyone ever had this happen??

If you lose your room key, you need to report it as soon as you find it is missing. Children's room keys don't have charging privileges, so you don't have to worry about theirs.

So do they ask which keys should have charging privileges upon check-in?

I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had a problem with lost/stolen room key before and how it was resolved if someone used it.

I've never heard of it happening to anyone but anything is possible. If you lose it, just stop by Guest services so they can call your hotel and have them cancel the charging privileges until you can get back there to get a new hotel key.

Personally, I would think it would be easier to cancel the hotel key as they can simply cancel it and print another one. If you lost your Credit card, you'd have to cancel it and it would take days to get another one from your credit card company. That could be a major problem while you are on vacation. Plus if someone did steal your hotel key, they couldn't take the card to Walmart or BestBuy and charge anything. They could do that with your credit card.

You tell them which cards you want charging privileges on. If you want your 14 year old to be able to charge, you tell them. If you don't want your teens charging, you let them know.

Honestly, it is much safer than a credit card. The hotel card can only be used on property. If a thief decided to steal your hotel key, he isn't going to stick around and eat at Mythos with your hotel card. CC thieves use cards to buy big items and to charge on the internet or even to steal your identity. Your hotel keys have none of that ability. Plus the thief would not know if your hotel key even has charging privileges.

You still have the ability to dispute any charges with your cc company. Hotel charge cards are just a safer way to charge at the themeparks.

Thanks so much for your response. It certainly makes me feel much better. I feel confident if there had been problems with this kind of thing before, it would be well known on these boards. My DH and I usually try to spend only cash (traveler's checks) while traveling, but I know that we can pay cash at the end of our stay.

We both like the idea of using the room key for everything and not worrying about having cc or id with checks on us all the time. Plus, it is a good point that we could allow the 14 yo charge privileges if we want to.

Just to clarify, can we charge absolutely anywhere on grounds with the room key? Parks, CW, any hotel, pool, etc?

Some of the food and beverage carts do not accept cc or hotel keys. There may be some places in Ciytwalk that don't accept the hotel keys possibly Emerils or the movie theater. Hopefully, someone else can answer this question.

food and beverage carts do not take the room key for charging purchases.

you can use your room key to charge merch and food within the parks.

not all of the resturants in city walk have agreements with loews hotels.
plan on using cash, travelers checks or cc for dining in city walk

a few of the resturants have an agreement with the loews on site hotels for priority seating...hrc, margaritaville, etc.
show your room key and you get put ahead of the wait line if you didn't make a ressie. but then, not all of the resturants there in city walk take ressies.
