My DH doesn't want to carry much cash around and would like to charge to our room. Since this is our first time doing this, can you charge everything to your room, even snacks, drinks, etc?

As long as you're staying on Disney property you can. It was the best thing for us - all we had were a few disney dollars (for small things like bottles of water) and the card. Just when you check in - make sure you tell them you want that feature on your room key/pass. They need a credit card to do it. But after that - you're set!

The push cart vendors do not take credit cards or room keys. So you might want to carry a little bit of money for that. We always charge to our room. It makes it alot easier than wondering what money was spent where especially with teenagers.

We actually found a few push carts that did take the room charge - just ask. It's easier for us than carrying so much cash around.

Some of the carts take cards now. It all depends on if they have electricity. They have to plug up to use the charge machines.

The desk will set a limit of $1500 on your room charges. If and when you go over it, you have to go by the desk to start it up again.

The limit varies by resort level - value $500, moderate $1000, deluxe $1500.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't it possible to give the front desk cash and they will put it on your room card? I was told that was a possibility because my husband and I don't use credit cards. Someone here said they have done that before. That's what we were planning since we work on a cash only basis.

Yes you can. When I visited last year I put a combination of cash & travelers checks down. When trip was over I just went to front desk and collected money I had not used.

How come there is a different amount for the different resorts? I would think they would all be the same amount. 500.00 is not alot of mone in the World.

My guess is that they think if you are staying in a Value or Moderate you might be on more of a budget minded trip so you won't go overbudget. Just a guess. But once you reach $500 all you have to do is go down to the front desk, sign and you begin again. I stay at Values so I can go more often.

how does it work? Do they give you a card, then total it at the end and put it on your credit card? Or do you pay cash and settle up at the end?

You use your room key to charge your purchases/meals while on property. They will charge it to your credit card when you check out, or you can do as I did, and go and pay it with cash or travelers checks before check out day.

You can settle the bill either way. However, you need to provide a credit card or a cash deposit at the time you check in to activate charging priviledges on your room key card. If you use a credit card, you can request express check out, in which case the accumulated room charges will be charged to the credit card automatically. A copy of your bill will be delivered to your room early in the morning on the day you are checking out. If you use a cash deposit, you will have to check out at the front desk to get the balance of your cash deposit refunded. If you use cash, you will be contacted if you hit your charge limit, since your charging priviledges will be suspended once you've used up your prepaid credit. You can always deposit more cash.

That will be a great feature to use when we decide to go. I have a prepaid Visa (Wachovia Buxx card) that I can link it to that I will be putting $1000 on for our trip. That way, I don't need a lot of cash either.

Guess it wouldn't really matter if I use the room key or my prepaid visa. If I use a room key, it will still come off the card, but then I guess I wouldn't have to carry the card around with me.
