Yes! As of August last year, they began issuing the new Key to the Magic, which acts as your room key and can be attached to a credit or debit card on file for charging throughout the Resort.

These work exactly like the key to the world cards. You would have thought they would have gone with the obvious name "Key to the Land" but alas, they chose "Key to the Magic"

Us Disneyland fans have been waiting years for this, Now that WDW and Disneyland are run under one umbrella, hopefully they will benefit from each other's good ideas. For instance, I wish WDW would adopt Disneyland's AP system. You get a hard plastic card with a bar code, and your photo. When it's scanned you photo comes up on a large screen so the cast member can verify your identity. No finger scans! This makes the line move much faster. I can't stand the lines waiting to get in to WDW parks.

Thanks! I knew I had heard they were going to make the change, but wasn't sure if it ever happened. :goodvibes

Should be handy come August, my DGF is a shopaholic.

Make sure to have an ID with you, though. I almost wasn't able to get a margarita at the DLH pool (horrors!) because I had only brought my room key and not an ID.

But they don't work exactly the same, as they do not contain admission media. So they are not the key to the *land*.

I'm ornery, but I like that they are different (though I'm sure at some point they'll put admission on the cards...I won't relish that day, I like having separate cards and I'm sure I'll keep mine separate).

Yes you can use your room key to charge at Disney shops and restaurants. Be sure to bring your photo ID. They ALWAYS ask for it.

Street vendors, like icecream sellers do not always have charging capabilities, so be sure to bring cash.
