Hello all;
as some of you remember, my parents are coming with us for the first five days of our July trip. Can I get them KTTW cards with separate charging privileges? Dad's credit is a lot better than mine, LOL. Since we are going to be in 3 resorts this trip I'm afraid by our 3rd check in our limit will be way, WAY down if we add mom and dad to our credit cards. Dad also wants to pay their own way since the BWV costs him nothing.

You can just get them the cards and when he gets there he can pay some money to the room bill on his card, and then when he is leaving he can pay any difference.

If you get a list of room charges any night there, they show WHICH card was used to make the charge so it is EASY to seperate what charges are thiers and which are yours.

The easiest is to have your guests use their own credit card on their room key, as you cannot list 2 separate credit cards on the same account. Of course you can charge it all and work it all out at the end as the cards are coded by number. What they can do is for you to check out in person and split the charges up at that time with 2 charge cards. Of course since you will be at 3 resorts with 3 checkins, you could alternate cards to use as a way to hold down the total charges to one card. I don't know how much WDW tends to block credit cards but it is a common practice for resorts to block a certain amount on your card. It can take several weeks for the block to go way in some cases but whether WDW does this, I don't know.

They certainly do block your credit card. When we stayed at the CBR 5 or 6 years ago they told us that we had a $2500 limit on the room and if we needed more to just stop by and ask. Well we checked out on the last day and settled the bill for just a few hundred dollars. Then we went to DD to do some shopping. After a few purchases my card was denied. After calling VISA we found that WDW still had the $2500 hold against our card registering. They allowed the purchase but I was not too happy. I guess that I get embarrassed about those things. Now I make sure that I tell them at check-in how much I want them to block on the card. If I need more I stop by the desk and up it later. We probably wouldn't have any problems with it now since we are more established and have a higher limit.

Understand if you have more than your family in your room you have to work out the charges. What is the story on rooms that you make reservation for. We are planning a family reunion so the rooms I reserve for my brother in laws....they just put their card down.......right? Giving them the rooms is enough don't need their purchases also!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eva,
Wow, what a bummer. They have never blocked a penny on my card in all the years I have gone there. In fact, I asked once and they said they run it for one dollar to see if the card is good, but, never submit the charge.

I had an embarassing situation. I had a new credit card from AOL Visa when I stayed at the Beach Club 3 or 4 years ago. They charged the remaining 6 nights on the card. Then we went to Universal and I charged a bunch of separate things there. When we got to the Belz Outlet later that day, my card was denied! The reason was they got suspicious because of all the out of state charging on a new card. I had to get on the phone with them there and confirm everything on my account before they would release it. They said they called my home to check on it earlier, but no one was home of course. It's a good thing they watch these things, but I got some dirty looks at the outlet! :rolleyes:

DebbieB,

I had this exact same thing happen to me. I had a credit card that had no balance for a long time. I took it with me on a trip to the Mall Of America. On the way there from NY we hit some outlets, and then the shopping at the Mall, and we hit some outlets on the way home, and after one or two that day the card was denied at one outlet store. they called in and then they handed the phone to me, and I had to speak with the people telling why there were these out of state charges all of a sudden after a long period of no use.

We did this last year and it worked out fine. We had two rooms, a studio and a 2bdr. The studio was allowed to have a seperate charge. We gave the the adults in the 2bdr cards with charging priviliges, then the morning of checkout someone went to desk and got the bill, brought it back and determined who charged what. Everyone then stopped at desk and paid their share. Worked great. Of cousre there is an amount of trust involved ;) , but hey your in WDW, the happiest palce on the planet :)

One problem we have had in the past is that they automatically think we want the easy check out. In December DH went to pay our bill and found out "sorry, it's already gone through." If this happens in July it might put a damper on the latter two resorts. We told them that we wanted to pay cash and we had it too, but they went on ahead. I hope this doesn't happen again. We like the convenience of charging to a card, but not a credit card!
So let me get this straight--when we check out, Dad can pay their portion with his own credit card, right? He might even pay for meals, etc. with the credit card anyhow.

One way to avoid the "easy check out" problem is to visit the front desk the day before you check out. Just ask them for the bill and you can settle the charges at that time. (Obviously, you would still have to pay for anything charged after that time).

And yes, your Dad can pay his portion with his credit card and you can pay your portion with your credit card or cash/travelers' checks.

Enjoy the trip!
