We plan on adding charging privileges to our room key and was wondering if it was possible to charge meals with it. If so, do all or most restaurants allow this? What about counter service places? Thanks!

Yep, you can charge pretty much anything, including meals, to your room. Just be careful, as it adds up quickly and you can be taken by surprise if you call to check up on your balance! ;)

You can charge with your room key at virtually any restaurant (TS or CS) or shop on WDW property. The only exception that I know if is the restaurants and shops at the Swan and Dolphin, as they are not owned by Disney.

Actually, the gift shop at Swan is owned by Disney and you can charge things to your room key from there, but the restaurants are not.

very few places deny the room key cards. If you are going to a stand though make sure you ask them up front, we had a few that couldn't do it because the scanners were not working at their stand. They may have worked out the bugs by now but better safe then sorry.

It seems to me like The House of Blues will not accept your room key for payment, but I might not be right. Been a while since I ate there.

Enjoy.
