Ok, we're on the home stretch! We leave in 3 days (count 'em, THREE DAYS!) :cool1: We're trying to figure out how much cash to bring with us for 7 days. We're staying at POR, and have the free dining plan. I've already printed up some cute envelopes for Mousekeeping, with $$ in each. I know there will be a lot more 'incidentals' than anyone can plan for, but exactly what can we charge to our room, thus, eliminating using up cash? I know there are LOTS of ATM machines, but we just like to plan ahead...

Can you charge (to your room) food, snacks from snack carts, shopping finds, etc.? Is there a minimum they require? (wondering if we charge a soda from a cart!).

Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks! :goodvibes

I think just about all the gift shops allow charging back to your room. Without a minimum amount. Same way with the sit down table service places. Most of the "normal" counter service places are now equipped to do the charge back. The kiosks around are hit and miss. There should be a sign indicating if you can or not.

Remember that the ATMs will charge you something like $2.50 for each withdrawal.

We were in POR in Feb.05 and I charged everything to my room card. I think the smallest purchase was a buzz light spinner and every place you can think of lets you use it. I was even told at one point when I couldn't find cash I was buying just a pop and I could charge it to the card. Then when our trip was ending they give you a print out of everything you've charged to your room and I doubled checked with my receipts and everything was right. Then it all goes on your visa as the whole amount total not seperate. I loved this feature and it was nice to know the only thing I really needed to bring with me to the park was our room key. Now I have 5 in our family and my card was the only one that had that privilage. I had it removed from the kids and my husband. :earboy2: Now depending on your limit to your credit card is the limit aloud on your credit card. Ours was different because were from Canada. If we go again in Feb.06 then I would do that again.

There also is a limit to how much you can charge, depending on the class of hotel. I believe the Value resorts is 500.00, and I know that the deluxe is 1500.00 (I don't know what the limit is in moderates).

Once you reach that max, your card will be charged, and then you start from the beginning again. Good thing to keep in mind though, because I've heard some say that once they reached their "max", their room card stopped working for charges, until they went down to the front desk to have it charged and re-set to 0.00.

What I do, is I stop at the front desk of my hotel nightly, do get a print out of what I've currently spent, and how close I am to the max. That way, if I'm getting close, I can always have the hotel charge my card at the moment, so I don't have to worry about going over the hotels maximum allowment.
