Charge for Extra Person Who's Not Staying The Whole Time

I have a hard time believing that Disney's intention is to charge me $70 per day for a guest who comes to visit during the day and sleeps elsewhere.
They won't. The extra adult charge is incurred when more than two persons age 18 or over share the room. But, even then, it would only be $70 with two extra adults in a deluxe resort.

No. Day guest is just that - someone who is there during the day (so possibly the resort guests might want to attempt to get permission from the lifeguards for that person to swim.) I mean, if you define "day guest" is someone who's there in a day to day basis, that describes every guest.

So than this advice early on the thread was incorrect?

If not;
If the extra adult is joining you at the beginning of the trip you can let the CM at the front desk know when he/she leaves and they won't charge you for the last 3 nights.

If the extra adult is joining you during the trip just wait and add them after you check in for the appropriate number of nights.

My sister always joins us for portions of our trip so I have done both of the above scenarios without any issues.

Yes, it's $70 per night and I'd like to avoid the extra $210 for the 3 nights the guest will not be there.

That was me your quoting and just to be clear I NEVER used the term day guest nor have I ever heard it from a Disney CM. My advice as based on my personal experience over the past 10 or so years and as recent as April 2019.

When I have added my sister we did not exceed room occupancy but since my older dd is over 18 we had 3 "adults" in the room when my sister joins us (4 guests total).

In the OP's case if the total number of guests doesn't exceed room occupancy she should have no issues adding another adult for only the duration of his or her stay (as long as they aren't booked with a package). If your uncomfortable with this then by all means leave the guest on for the entire stay - your choice!

As for the newer poster you can't exceed room occupancy ever so if the guest is spending the night you would need to find a room that can accommodate everyone even if you have to split your reservation for those nights.

Thanks. We only have 2 adults in the room and will have the 3rd adult for 4 days. We called to add him on the room and he's been now added for the full week with the CM telling us that it the only we. We don't have a package; room only. I guess I'll have him removed and then just show up at the front desk on our arrival day and have him added with a checkout halfway through. It seems odd that you cannot arrange that by phone.

Actually in your case I would leave it as is IF he is joining you on check in day and leaving early! When you check in just let the CM know he is leaving early and visit the front desk the day he leaves and remind them to remove him from the room and stop the extra adult charge.
Again just my suggestion.....

The CM's at the resort have access to reservation and other resort specific systems that the reservation CM's don't so they can do things the reservation CM's can't.

I don't think doing it by phone is the issue; things change once your reservation has begun and is under the resort's control.

We were just at WDW for two nights at OKW. Our son was also in Orlando attending a meeting with two friends. They all had rooms for their first night, but not the second. We had a one bedroom villa that sleeps five . We had added our son to our reservation when we made it because we thought he might be able to join us for our stay. We invited his two friends to spend the night since we had the room in our villa. We took his friends over to the front desk, the front desk added their names to our reservation as day guests and issued them magic bands in their color choices. These bands would identify them as DVC resort guests and they could use the band to open the door to the villa. But they would not be able to charge with the bands. They could have added any tickets to their bands, but the three of them entered the parks using CM tickets from another friend of my son.

Since we were staying on DVC points there was no charge for overnight parking for any of us (we had three cars among the five of us). Plus, DVC doesn't charge for extra adults, so no extra costs. Other than buying the three of them dinner at GF Café.

Well, not that I have cash to throw around, but this all seems tiresome. Maybe I should just pay the extra money and forget about it.

Not sure I understand the above - you won't be charged until you check in anyway so what is the harm in leaving things as is and inquiring at check in? Yes you may have to walk to the front desk on day 5 but it would be worth saving that extra $ to me.

A room only reservation requires a one night deposit so you are only being charged for the extra adult for one night. If he is arriving day one, leave him on the reservation and inquire as to removing him when he checks out.

There is nothing that can be done in advance. The CM at the resort has more ability and authority to make adjustments and changes during your stay.

It is $35 per night for each extra adult (over 2) in a deluxe, (iirc its 25 in a moderate and 20 in a value). My kids are both over 18 and so we are all too familiar with the extra adult fees!

Thanks. My son was the one who called and added the friend. He told me it was $70 per night. $35 seems better. :)

I have added an overnight guest to my stay many, many times. The front desk was informed on the day the guest arrived that an additional person would be staying overnight for however many nights (usually two). The front desk used the term Day Guest when referring to the person I was adding. I was issued a KTTW card for the additional guest and charged the extra adult rate for only the nights they were there. I did turn in the KTTW when they left. With the added person, we were a party of three, so we did not exceed occupancy for the room we were in. I last did this in May, so not so long ago. I will be doing it again later this month for two nights. It has never been a problem for us.

  • Deluxe Resorts: $35 per night, per additional adult (increased from $25)
It's $35 per person per night. Did the CM explain the amount?

I didn't talk to them. My son called and added the person on. I'm pretty sure it will be $35 and my son made a mistake when he relayed the info back to me.

Okay, that makes sense. $70 for one person for two nights.

I wasn't doubting you, just providing information that the information was wrong.

are the extra adult fees taxed at the 12.5% or is it a straight $15/$25/$35 etc.?

I didn't think you were doubting me. :) I just wanted to iterate that I wasn't the one on the other end of the line with the CM. To make it even more confusing, I thought he was going to be there 3 "less" nights, not 2! So now it does all need to make sense.

I really need to stop multitasking.

But if you did that, wouldn't they revoke your Mom Card?

My kids are old now so my true 'mom card' is in storage and only comes out temporarily!

I've really been working on a tough project for work here and there and my son will start calling me about his experience with the CM and adding the friend and I'm sort of half listening to him and he didn't pay attention on the call so, you see how it goes...
