Characters Signing T-shirts Etiquette

We are surprising DD10 this weekend with a 2-days quick birthday trip.

I just made her a shirt to wear.

My question is about getting it signed. I know characters will not sign if the person is wearing the item. BUT my dd will have a thick tank on underneath. We are going BAG FREE and will have nothing on us but our magic bands, ID's, phones, etc. so no room to bring a clipboard, embroidery hoop, etc. I don't really want to carry the shirt around just to have it signed if she's not wearing it. That's a big risk of me putting it down, her forgetting it on a ride, etc.

Is it bad character etiquette to take the shirt off before getting in a character line, have it signed, then slip it back on for the photo?

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this or has experience getting a shirt signed when you're bag/stroller free and can't take along a clipboard? I can stick a Sharpie in my back pocket with no worries but I don't want to offend anyone or break rules and I couldn't find an "official" position about slipping a shirt on/off for signing.

Any thoughts?

That's a lot of writing for one shirt. It's also mostly about you, what you gave her and how awesome you are, after a quick mention of her birthday. Perhaps "it's my 10th birthday" or "Birthday Girl" would suffice? Just something to consider.

I cannot imagine that any character would have an issue with a child putting on the shirt they have just signed. I'm sure most of them will find it very cute.

As long as the shirt isn't wet with sweat or water and you have it off before arriving at the character you really shouldn't have a problem getting it signed. As long as you can get the shirt back on her in a few seconds it shouldn't be an issue for the photo either.

.

I just made her a "Birthday Girl" shirt that says "It's my 10th Birthday and My Parents surprised me with a trip to Disney World! (They're pretty awesome!)"

Any thoughts?

It seems like this shirt is more about you then about her.

... but then again it could take a stroller-parent just as long to get Kid A unbuckled, etc, and then back in the stroller when they're done. I don't want to upset anyone or take more time than is fair with the characters of course.

Any thoughts?

No, because strollers have to be left outside of all attractions and meets and greet areas with the exception of special needs kids

While you probably could, is dressing and undressing your child how you want to spend very limited M&G time? Lots of parents change their kids outfits before a character meet, but I wouldn't spend time redressing her before the photo. Instead just hold the shirt for the photo.

But after 2 days in the parks, I'm not sure I would want a shirt I was wearing to be continually taken on and off again. It will get dirty and sweaty. And by the end of day 2 I personally would have no desire to put that shirt back on.

I would suggest bringing something else to sign, or just forgo signatures and enjoy the meets. The shirt will be a conversation starter, and you will get better interactions when half the meet isn't spent trying to get the shirt signed.

Edited to clarify the original question. Since we are only there so briefly I think we will let her choose how to spend the time and I'll ask if the shirt signing is even something she wants to do before planning on it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

i dont think it'll be an issue at all. we were at Chef Mickeys for breakfast one morning, and the mom literally pulled out 10 shirts to have each character sign off on each one of them.

Can you customize a cute baseball or bucket hat instead ? When my kids were young we got lighter colored Disney hats and just had to carry the sharpie, the kids and characters loved them. Unlike the autograph books and other items the hats got worn and then hung up prominently in their rooms after the trips.
