characters signing autograph books?

Can anyone suggest a neat way to make sure the characters don't sign the back of a page that already has a signature on it? (Without going to a lot of time and trouble pre-decorating each page.) I don't want to stress about having my DS4 ask each character to "please only sign on the right side of my book"! Thanks!!

You could cut your paper to size and bring a small clip board. That way you pull out the color paper you want pop it on the clip board and they have a study surface to write on.
I have also found if you open the book for them and point to the page they usually will sign where you want....

We also cut paper ahead of time and used a clip board. It worked really good. One suggestion though, if you are going to use the signatures for a scrapbook, you might want to either think about using paper of differant colors or when you go to do your book, scan the autographs and then print on paper to match your layout. I had just to much white for my pages and I ended up scanning them all and reprinting them.

I've already planned to do the clipboard/card thing, but what would you suggest they use to sign with? Definitely not an ink pen, but are sharpies OK?? I'm new at this - can you tell??

Thanks!
Brenda

We used a sharpie, worked great. And you can get them in all kinds of colors:D

One thing we do to our autograph books is place a clip art of the character on the page we want them to sign on. The characters usually make a big fuss over already having their picture on the page. Last year Eeyore drew a rain cloud and rain over his clipart before he signed it. Very neat little touch.

We have them sign the right side only and put there picture ( that I take when there signing the book or after posing with DD) on the left side. I always have the book ready and just ask them to sign on the right side only. Never has been a problem.
On trips back to the world the characters love to go through the book and see there picture!

If you have an album that you can add pages to, just have the characters sign the pages front and back. Then when you get home add additional pages between the signature pages to mount your photos on.

If the album doesn't have removable pages and you want to be sure the characters only sign on the right hand pages, use Post-It notes to mark the left hand pages "PHOTO".

Also I wouldn't use a Sharpie marker ... if the paper is thin the ink could come thru the backside of the paper. Instead I would use scrapbook pens ... fat-tip Zigs from a craft store or CM's new round tip pens ... plus the scrapbooking pens won't fade over time.

I took a trip with my neice (4) and nephew (2) in early June. their first trip to WDW.
I made them little autograph books that they loved to look through and the characters loved also.
I bought little 4X6 photo albums at Michaels. Colored plastic covers with a snap closure. They were only $.99.
I made a title page with the childs name on the front and just in case, their address on the inside of the cover.
I then went to the internet and got clipart for all the characters they would see at the parks. You can find lists on different sites that will tell you what characters are around and where you might find them. I didn't want to miss anyone.
I printed this clipart onto sticky paper, not the label kind with cut lines, but the solid 8X11.
I then cut out the character, I cut an oval shape around the clipart, I didn't cut them along the lines, I am not that much of a fanatic.
I put each of the characters (except Chip and Dale) on their own 4X6 file card. Use the back side where there is no lines printed.
When we came to a character the kids got in line and I pulled the card out of their little book and gave it to the character to sign. They all seemed to love seeing that I took the time to have those cards made up and seemed to spend a little more time interacting with the kids.
This also helped my Disney challenged neice and nephew to learn some of the characters before they saw them at the parks. They would know Dora and Barney anywhere, but they were not as familiar with Buzz and Pocohontas until I told them some of the stories as we looked through the books.
I only wish I had made these a few weeks before the trip so we could have gotten more time beforehand to know all the characters.
They both have their books in their rooms and we look through it every time I go over to visit. A great memory for them and Auntie Peggie. Peggie
