Characters renamed?

Forgive me if this has been brought up... my life nowadays has me busier than I was over the summer... which I thought was impossible, but alas, it's not.

It seems to me that more people on my friend's list have been getting namechanges than usual. I have more guests than I ever did before.
Every time I've logged in the past month, someone has had a title change. Just today, after only about a week, four of my friends were changed to guests. I am not sure who is who now . Are they starting to buckle down on the character name rules? The names that have been changed don't really follow a reasoning pattern, either. I can understand some, but even that is a stretch... while others I don't get at all.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed this, or if I am missing a rule change or something?

It looks like they are making anyone with a character name or the name Disney in their title change it. Though I can't see the reasoning. These names are something we can be identified with in our everyday lives unless we give ALL of our personal info on boards like these.

Which also brings up the question...if it is so important now, why wasn't it important when this game started over two years ago? Has some kind of new copyright laws gone into place? And, also does Disney have all of the copyright laws for the Pooh Characters? i.e. Tigger? For some reason I thought A.A. Milne would have since he was the author of the books?

Some of us have had our names since beta phase, sheesh! And now have to change them?

So..who's up for changing all of our names to Universal characters?
Wonder if they would be offended?

I thought that when someone with "tink" in her name lost the title. But the others that have been changed on my list don't mention disney characters at all...

I don't understamd the reasoning. I have been on VMK for over a year and had to change 2 character names within the last month. One had nothing to do with Disney (OzzSmith), but the other did have WDW in the title. I don't think VMK can figure out what OzzSmith means. Why now after some people have had their name since the start of VMK? I can understand the copyright laws, but those have been there.

What if a CL gets a title change? Would they be CL_Guest1234567? That would be a sight to see!

They probably thing OzzSmith is your name lol! Probably the smith part. Strange though since I saw someone who had obviosly used there real name and it was approved. Hmm..

Here's a bizarre one. I had to change my title. I changed it from one with Tink in it, to another one with Tink in it. The 2nd name was approved just minutes after I changed it. Go figure!

The character renaming is a joke. If you character's title was clearly just Mickey, Goofy, Donald, etc, then it should be changed. Not if you are using your favorite character with your title and something else. It makes your title unique.

I have seen the response when people have asked why my title was changed and it is a form letter which people probably feel they fall into the "myriad" category. To my "myriad" sounds like I dont know why but my boss said if it has this is should be changed.

I think reasons for changing should be explainatory - and just because it has a Disney Character's title in a name is not enough. It is a Disney Game, what did you expect people to create titles with, especially little kids.

I typed this in another thread. My husband was asked last night to change his name. He has had since June 2005. PappaTigger. I think its the Tigger part but of course he got no explanation.

I suspect this Disney game is going to sell to some non disney company so they want to get all our names in compliance before they do that. Thats my thinking at least. I have no idea why else would they be taking away all disney names?

Thought I would share this interesting little story with you all... My friend RedCheez had her title changed to RedChez. I wonder what VMK's reason for that was.

More than likely this was me, I have been wandering throughout vmk over the past week with different character names. I know for sure they don't want WDW within my character name anymore, so now having trouble finding a new character name. I believe this would be my third or fourth name change throughout vmk, totally understand the first one with a number in it (WDWTigger72), but when I changed to (WDWTiggerRT) I thought I would never be asked again, especially over the past two years.

P.S. Anyone who has had their title changed I recommend you continue writing emails through the vmk help page (contact us). I will continue to write them until I finally received a response as to why this is occurring.

I wish they would better communicate why these changes are required before just forcing you to change your character name after two years. The lack of communication has been very frustrating throughout the years...
