So what do you guys think the chances of getting Winnie the Pooh or Monsters Inc characters at the reception are?

Not going to happen. They even state pooh characters are not an option.

I was told if you save special characters other than the norm... They have to either fit your theme or the venue.

So, I'll complain for two seconds... I think it's silly that you can't have other types of characters. If Winnie the Pooh and Tigger and Eeyore are your favorites, then why not? I would flip if I could have the Robin Hood characters there!! :-) We're going with Donald and Daisy (they are our favorites), but I just don't understand why you can't put in requests for other characters. We are paying a lot of money for these characters, we should be able to put in requests. I could almost understand them saying no to a normal face character (ie. a princess, so you actually see the real human, so you have to make sure a very specific cast member is available that day), but to have a cast member put a Pooh suit on rather than Mickey... I just don't understand the reasoning. Does anyone have any ideas or insight into why it can't be done?

I think with specific regard to the Pooh characters - the issue is that Disney doesn't own all of the rights to Winnie the Pooh. A.A. Milne wrote the stories, and licensed the characters to Disney and several others for various works (films, books, tv, radio, etc.). When he died, there was a lawsuit regarding the licensures and film rights.

As far as the Monsters Inc, i don't know of any Pixar-created characters that are available for wedding appearances, but i would assume if there is any flexibility, it would be with the Pixar characters, as opposed to the Pooh characters. I know when the Pixar deal was finalized, very specific conditions were put into place regarding that the Pixar Studio remain separate from Disney animation studio - and that the Pixar name had to be kept.

In this instance, "special characters" are ones that they offer, but only if you spend an additional $x on themeing. These include Mary Poppins, Alice and the Mad Hatter, etc.
There are other weird rules, like if you want a princess, you can only get a princess trio, you can't get just a single princess.

That kind of thing.

With your "regular charecters" (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Pluto) you don't have to invest in extra themeing or other charecters to have appear.

I know this is not exactly what you had in mind, but keep reading.
The disney event group offers a pixar party. It includes mike and sully with the scream doors setup. So the fundamental pieces are already assembled and ready for use. How much it might cost, how many of the set pieces they would require you to use, or how much resistance your planner might offer, is anyone's guess.
www.Disneyeventgroup.com is their site. Here is the link to the party pdf.

Good Luck!
