We are planning to visit US/IOA this year and my DS (5) is REALLY into a lot of the "Universal" characters. We really enjoy all of the characters at WDW and are wondering if there are many at US/IOA, especially any Shrek characters?

The last time we were there in 2002, we saw:

Shrek, Lord Farquad, Spongebob, Scooby, Shaggy, Popeye, Olive Oyl, Woody Woodpecker, Spiderman, Capt America, Green Goblin, other mutant x characters, Eliza Thornberry, Rugrats, Betty Boop, Curious George, the man in the big yellow hat, and others that I can't remember now...oh I think Crash Bandicoot was there also...

GREAT! I was worried about mentioning them until I knew for sure. I am actually getting excited about our first Universal visit!

We met the Cat in the Hat and Thing one and Thing Two in Seussland too.

We just got back from US/IOA with a 4 and almost 2 yr. old. We enjoyed the characters, but I don't think there are quite as many as at Disney. US and IOA was much less crowded especially with young kids, so there weren't many lines to the characters at Universal. We saw Shrek but that was it from that movie. Some of them not listed already were the Grinch,Woody Woodpecker, the girl woodpecker??? , Barney, Sam I Am, Lucy,

in addition: Princess Fiona, Cat in the Hat, Thing One and Thing Two, Grinch, Winny Woodpecker ("woody woodpacker's girlfriend"), Lucy and Ricky, Barney and Betty Rubble, Fred and Wilma Flintstone,

and then, of course, don't forget the characters from the shows: The Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein, and Bride of Frankenstein, Blues Brothers (I mainly mention these because there are sometimes the opportunity to meet these characters after the shows).

there might be a couple others, but that's all I can think of at the moment. :)

My boyfriend and I went yesterday. We saw a bunch of the Mutant X characters (not sure Who), Spiderman, Captain America, Popeye, Olive Oyl, some of the Rugrats (I think), and Princess Finona.

We went last week and I was surprised at how many characters are out and about! And with few crowds and lines to see them! I don't think you'll be disappointed =)

My DD wants to take her WDW autograph book to get some new autographs. I tried to talk her into getting a new one for Universal, but she wants them all in the same book. We are hoping for Sponge Bob!

Sponge Bob has a designated site at the end of the Jimmy Neutron ride. You don't have to ride the ride to get to Sponge Bob, however. You can enter through the gift shop to the right of the Jimmy Neutron ride and just walk all the way back into the interactive area.

The Wild Thornberry's
The Flintstones
Merlin (wizard)
Popeye and Pals
Scooby Doo cast
Marvel comic characters
Dr. Doom
Rugrats
Ghostbusters
Blues Brothers
Beetleguise
Woody Woodpecker
Grinch
Cat in the Hat
Betty Boop

Used to see Doc Brown (back to the future) (I think he retired)
as well as Boris and Natasha (I think they may have retired as well, not sure)

I'm sure there's more. Probably even some new ones.

I think that Dr Doom was one of those let go when Universal released some characters. Doc Brown, the Green Goblin and Barney & Wilma were a part of that too.

We saw several X-Men and Spiderman at IOA which really thrilled DS. We ate at the lower level restaurant at HRH (can't think of the name) and Woody Woodpecker and Scooby Doo came to our table which was a nice surprise. :)
