My SIL and BIL are talking about doing one or more of the Disney races. They are both big runners. DH might join in the fun too. I however am unable to run. I've heard there are lots of rare characters involved in the race weekends. Are they only along the race route for runners to meet? Or are they around the pre and post race activities that you can also go to if you purchase the cheer package? I'll be around as much as possible to cheer my family on.

What about walking the race? As long as you can maintain a 16 minute mile pace you do not need to run it!

They usually have a few at the finish line, but theyre usually the common variety. The rare ones are on the course for the runners only.

It depends on the race theme. For instance, this past January, the 5k theme was the 3 Caballeros, so all three were available for pictures at the start/finish area. But at the half and full marathon this past January, the finish characters were Uncle Scrooge, Pluto, Chip and Dale, and Daisy if I recall correctly. And if your purchase the expensive cheer package that allows you into the tent, they normally have a character or two in there as well. I have never spent the extra money, so I don't know who has been in there.

However this upcoming January Marathon is the 20th, and they have promised extra rare characters this time. So as a PP said, if you can walk a 16 min/mile pace (they recommend 15 min/mile) if to see characters, you can do the race.

I believe all they have promised is "enhanced entertainment" at mile 20 - that can mean pretty much anything.
