DH and I are heading to Disney World Jan. 31-Feb. 3. DS3 will not be with us, but we will take him to Disney for his first trip this fall. I thought it might be fun to get a few postcards signed by characters in the parks and send them to him. :) Will characters only sign their names, or do you think some of them would be willing to write a brief message along the lines of, "Can't wait to see you soon!"?

We're also considering bringing our Flip cam and having some of the face characters do brief video messages as well, which we could edit together for him. Anyone tried something like this? Thanks!

In all my trips to WDW and DL I have only had a character sign something other than their name once. For us it was Donald Duck. My son was 18 months old and was sooo excited to se Donald. We were physically holding him back while he shouted, "Da- Duck!" When it was his turn to see him, DS bounded to Donald and Donald picked him up and loved and snuggled him. For the autograph Donald wrote about how cute DS was. Besides the name, it was obvious by the handwriting that "Donald" was a female. It was magical for us, but from a Disney management standpoint I would say that they typically will not write more than the standard greeting because it "lifts the veil of magic" a bit if the character cannot keep the handwriting consistant.

I've had several characters write other things, completely unprompted. Goofy commented on my daughter's manners, "Max needs to learn manners like yours!" and at DL Minnie asked her to "do her dishes" when she visited her house. Don't know what they would do when asked though.

Does your DS3 know about your trip yet? When my DD was 3, there is no way I would tell her about a WDW trip that far in advance. She didn't have enough a grasp on weeks, months, days etc to know how long the trip actually was. She would have driven us NUTS with asking "is it time to go yet?" :rotfl:

Yes, he knows. :) He does occasionally drive us slightly nuts asking, but we are using the trip as a "carrot" to encourage some "big boy" behavior (started with potty training, which has been done for some time now, and getting rid of the bedtime paci, still in progress). We don't mind the questions, and we've had fun watching WDW Youtube videos with him, etc. So we're trying to do things throughout the year to keep the magic going--hence the postcard idea. We will also order the free Disney maps a little later in the year and are still thinking of other little things we can do. It's fun for us. :)
