Heading to Disney next year with our grandsons who will be 4 and 3. We would love to do a character themed dining/event that would be suitable for them. Any suggestions would be welcomed!

The ones I would think they would enjoy would be:
Chef Mickey's (traditional "big 5" characters)
Hollywood and Vine (playhouse disney)
Crystal Palace (Pooh and friends)
Garden Grill (chip and dale plus mickey and I think pluto)
Tusker House (traditional characters)
'Ohana's (if they like lilo and stitch)

They have "non-princess" meals at other places but I am drawing a blank. If you go to allears.net you can get a rundown of where they are and who typically can be seen there. :goodvibes

Tusker House is breakfast only

I would pick it or Chef Mickey
then Pooh or Garden Grill
if you want to keep it simple & not over do them
check with their mom & see if they have a favorite that they would love to see (I would say ask them but if you didn't get a table then that is setting up for sad boys)

As a father of 4 boys, this is always an issue.

We seem to settle on 1900 Park Fare Breakfast, thanks mostly to The Mad Hatter. He is very silly and is basically a little boy with a giant hat. He loves to talk to the boys while the parents are at the buffet. He once yelled out my name so loudly I could hear him from the Buffet, he was wondering where I was. The boys still talk about this. I also like telling Alice, when she comes around, that there is something wrong with her friend with the big hat. She usually confirms his madness.

Winnie the Pooh is also a boy character, I think. I have no proof of this, but I can't exactly check without causing a scene.

Mary Poppins can take a hint and stays away.

My boys loved the Garden Grill in Epcot, they got to meet Chip, Dale, Pluto and Mickey. The restaurant revolves around scenes from the land ride, which my boys thought was so cool.
Crystal Palace with Pooh and friends was great also.

I think Chef Mickey's ( Goofy, Mickey and Donald walk around in chef's clothing ) or Garden Grill ( Mickey, Chip and Dale are dressed like farmers )

It might be surprising but my four-year-old loved that we ate at the castle (Cinderella's Royal Table). It's one of the things he's remembered and talked about since that trip. Boys get toy swords (that break pretty fast!)

Sunnywho:

I would LOVE to take our grandsons there. We never did do that with our daughters back in the day. Was he the only boy there? Is it really girly?

Has anyone else took their boys to cinderalla's table? I'm not sure if my husband and son-in-laws will approve of this LOL!

Thanks for all the suggestions...keep them coming.

Is there any other kid adventures that the boys would like that need planning and reservations that anyone could suggest...been out of the DISNEY scene for awhile. I could spend every day on these boards and I do...I'm becoming obsessed!!!

We eat at CRT every trip for dinner and my two boys. Yes I also have a DD but I don't think it is too girlie at all. The princesses come around but address the boys as princes and all the boys get a sword.... :lmao: that does break a day afer.

Also I didn't see Ohana's for breakfast where you can meet Lilo,Stitch, Pluto and Mickey.

Another fun thing for them would be the Pirate's League. I just made reservations for my 3 and they will get a pirate make over.

I just looked up the Pirates League. The boys will love that! Our 4 year old grandson will be so excited. I'm hoping his 3 year old cousin will sit still long enough. I think we will bring our own costumes.

Thanks!

I have 3 boys (9,6,&4) and we did Chef Mickey's, The Crystal Palace, and The Garden Grill and they all had a great time at each of them. I am hoping that Disney starts a Pixar character dining experience soon, those characters are the most popular right now.

There is a pirates league makeover...I think there is also a pirates cruise at a few resorts

They can also get a hair cut at the Main Street Barber, correct?

We have a 5 year old and we are doing:
Tusker House breakfast (Mickey & the gang)
1900 Park Fare (he loves Mad Hatter)
Crystal Palace (Pooh)
Chefs de France (we hope to see Remy, no guarantees on that, but my son loves that movie)
Sci Fi (not characters but eating in a car, cool)

When he was 3, we also paid OOP for T-Rex (not characters, but dinosaurs=cool). We have also eaten at Rainforest Cafe in California.

You could also stop by Pizza Planet in Hollywood Studios, it is a counter service and no characters, but it does have some theming like the Toy Story movie and they might like to see that.

Biergarten in Germany is also no characters, but I think my son would like it for the band and dancing (we aren't doing it this go around).

What about the dinner shows? Mickey's BBQ or Hoop de due Revue

WCC for the antics? (again no characters)

There is a Chip and Dale Campfire Sing a Long at the campground at Ft. Wilderness...don't believe it costs anything

There is just no way my DH would want my son to eat in the castle if it was just him and me (no little girls with us). Plus, the food has gotten really bad reviews and it is very expensive.

Good to hear it's not just MY boy who broke Cinderella's sword immediately! hahaha

My 7YO son has, for our last two trips, decided that he will NOT have a picture made with any princess! Why, you ask? "Because they might try to kiss me!" This from the same boy who, after breakfast at the castle on our first trip, refused to have the lipstick prints washed from his face for the rest of the day. Last trip, same boy hugged every character at Crystal Palace and even said "I love you Piglet" (pronounced Pig-a-let...) and gave him a kiss.:confused3

Had always avoided Crystal Palace because I thought the Pooh gang was too "babyish" for my kids; shows what I know! My boy also enjoyed both Chef Mickey's and Cape May. But I know they would really love a pirate themed character meal (not to mention ME!) before the movies are 10 years out-of-date (like the Kim Possible adventure). Are you listening, Disney??

Mother of 3 boys here, mostly grown now, so grandsons are the norm now. What do boys love more than castles? We have done CRT many time with the boys, they loved going into the castle! As they grew up, and we added Girlfriends and wives, they always plan a meal there now as the remember it so fondly and want to share that. The princesses always were great with the boys, lots of fun memories, including Alice tying the youngest boy's shoe, and Snow white remarking "Alice, you are SO SWEET!" 1900 park faire and Cape May Breakfasts were also always huge fav's with the guys.

My boy loves castles...but he has been to Medieval Times several times. There is jousting with real weapons and pretty decent food that you eat with your hands. I would think he would be disappointed with princesses and supposedly lousy food after that experience.:confused3

As an aside to OP, there is a Medieval Times in the Orlando area (not Disney but my son loves it there).
