Character Tees and "Styling" Family Photos

Ok ... First let me say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE good photos of my family. I am not into fashion by any means, but I am "that" person who "styles" my family once a year when we do x-mas photos! Not matchy-matchy. Just coordinated.

Anyway I'm trying to decide what to wear in the parks so that I don't look back and say "did we not look in the mirror before we left the hotel?" I'm not too worried about me and DH, but mostly worried about my 2.5 yr old DD. I don't plan on dressing her up in costumes. But I do worry if I put her in a graphic tee (say with Frozen on it) then when she gets pictures with other non-frozen characters, it will look weird in pictures. I don't want to have to change her multiple times throughout the day so that she is wearing an appririate shirt for each character, etc.

So I'm just trying to decide if I should do character tees for DD or just simple shirts with more subtle patterns.

Feel free to laugh at this silly questions ... I've been looking on Pintrest for ideas, but most ideas have the whole family dressed alike!

Other characters would notice my daughter's shirt (usually with Frozen characters on it) and comment and/or point. I don't think it's necessary to change into a different shirt for each character meet and greet. If anything, whatever character she decides to wear for the day will spark fun interactions.

I usually go into stores and see what nice outfits they have on the maniquens and try to match them with the outfits I have in my house usually works good.

Also what's wrong with being matchu matchu on Christmas it's suppose to be cheesy and hokey :0p

We have six kids, so photos can get WAAAAY too busy if I'm not pro-active in planning clothes. We go for coordinating colors most days. Pinks, grey & navy one day. Greens and Browns another. Oranges and peach and brown another. Etc. I try to stay away from images and words, although in some cases it works out ok.

We DO match at least one day per trip. Homemade shirts. We love it.

I wore plain clothes for the most part, and had my kids in coordinating-ish colors (usually at least one in a character shirt). (1) I found my hair or shorts/sneakers combo was more distracting in photos than my shirt; (2) characters on the shirts seem to really inspire character interactions during M&G for younger kids.

I've just got the one kid, but this is how I feel with the three of us! I can't imagine coordinating with 6 kids! LOL! But I am glad to hear I am not the only one who thinks about these things! DH gives me a hard time when I start trying to coordinate our outfits.

Hey, that's how I pack too!! Bonus--it forces you to do it in one day. If you want somewhere to sleep! LOL

Like others, we usually coordinate colors. But I've been known to have the kiddos make a wardrobe change for a specific character or two ;). Anyway, littles often need a change partway though the day--why not make the most if it. Enjoy your pics--I treasure mine! :)

Changing shirts for each character sounds like my DH. A couple years ago we had an ADR for dinner at Chef Mickeys and DH insisted we go back to the hotel before because he had to have in his Pluto shirt if he was going to meet Pluto. He was 35 years old at the time!!!

I only make my family wear matching shirts on MK day and I was able to buy the same shirt and color- gray mickey in girls 6x through mens 3X! I myself wear my other mickey mouse shirts the rest of the trip and DS (15) and DH(37) dont...

I have three children, close in age so I love to dress them in matching/coordinating outfits. I make a lot of sets with cute printed shorts and a polo for the boys and a sundress from the same fabric for my daughter. I also try to keep everyone in coordinating colors so that our pictures look better. I do this sometimes for day trips as well. It's also easier to find the missing kid when the other two are in matching clothes. Looking back on our trip pictures, they look so much nicer. I don't plan to do any character shirts. I have a rocket ship print set that will look great on the morning we visit Tomorrowland, a forest animal set for AK, and an octopus set that will be worn in Epcot on the day we visit the aquarium.

Where did you find the same shirt in such a range of sizes? I'll need a 4T, Women's L, and Men's 3X ... or did you make them?

I always try to have a few matchy outfits and a few random. The random outfits usually end up being the best. Sometimes I will spend so much time coordinating our outfits, and then DH just wears whatever.... So I kinda stopped fighting that battle all the time.

disneystore.com has all those sizes. There is usually one or two t-shirts that are carried across all sizes. Looks like it might be "mickey ringer" right now.

Thanks. I've been looking at that exact shirt today ... the only problem is that the plus sized men only comes in blue, the regular women's only comes in pink, and the toddlers only comes in grey. I guess that could work ... Although they have a girls minnie ringer that is cute but is a shade of pink ... and it's hard to tell but it looks like a differnt shade of pink than the women's, so it might clash ...

I love coordinating outfits and having them match with the park I'm in! It's a little easier, though, since it's only my husband and myself to worry with.

Re: changing character shirts, what you could do is to either have a more general themed shirt- like maybe a Disney princess themed shirt (with tiaras or glass slippers/apples/snowflakes/etc. etc.) or Hundred Acre Woods theme, etc. You could also use accessories to your advantage- a Frozen themed shirt with Cinderella shoes, a Belle crown, an Aurora bracelet, and so on and so forth if you can make the colours work together. You could also, say, put together an outfit for her in cream, light blue, and gold to match the Castle for example.

For my extended family trip I had a range of sizes from toddler to 3X and wanted coordination if not outright matching. I couldn't find anything pre-made across all sizes (sometimes not offered at all, sometimes offered but out of stock for certain ones). I found the Creative DISigns board here and had some coordinating designs made (like Snow White, choice of each dwarf, new mine train logo all on tan or gray shirts one day). Print them onto iron-on transfer paper at home, order shirts in a billion colors and sizes from Jiffy Shirts.com and TA da! Really fun pictures and compliments and interactions with characters and CMs.

I've never been a matching Disney shirt person before, but with such a big group I really wanted the pictures not to be too crazy.

I don't necessarily coordinate every trip, but last trip I made more of an effort. The day we met Anna and Elsa my DD wore her Frozen shirt with both, my DS wore an Olaf shirt, and I wore a shirt with Elsa and Anna. My DH just wore whatever. LOL I wanted to get him an Olaf shirt, but didn't find one in time. One other day we all wore Mickey and/or Minnie shirts. One day I wore grey and pink, DD wore pink, grey and green, and DS/DH wore green. Most of the time I don't care because I'm just happy to be at Disney World! LOL
