Wanted to do something different this trip, so am planning on having characters sign a plain white t-shirt. Bought some clickable Sharpies in 8 different colors, as I thought this would be easier for the characters to hold, as well as not having to worry about losing the caps to the pens. pluto: pooh: :eeyore: :figment: :stitch: :goofy: :maleficen :sulley: :tigger: :smickey: :tink: :donald:

1. Should I wash the shirt before or after the characters have signed the shirt?

2. What's the best thing to use to keep the shirt flat for the character to sign?

3. Are there CM's with each character to take pictures (if asked nicely)?

4. Is there a list of which characters can't/won't do signatures?

5. Is this a good idea or should I stick to a thicker card stock?

There is always a CM with each character and they will always take you picture. I really don't know about the washing of the shirt or a good idea to keep the shirt flat.

I have not seen a list of characters who don't sign, but he CM with them will tell you. Some of the ones that I know that don't sign are:

King Louie
Mr. Incredible
Buzz
Kermit the Frog
Miss Piggy

I'm sure other's can add to this list, but these are ones that I could think of.

you would have to wash the shirt first ... take a thick card board but it in the middle of the shirt and tape the arms too the back so the shirt don't move ( do this in girl scouts every year) i would get a white disney shirt and have them sign the back what a great idea :thumbsup2

1. Yes, wash first just incase it shrinks.
2. We have used cardboard in past as suggested, but had problems keeping it from sliding around, and trying to keep from bunching under the pens as they signed. Have since seen suggestions of putting the portion of the shirt you want signed into an embroidery hoop. Easy to hold on to, and keeps it stretched just enough for easy signing without bunching. I can't wait to try with the next shirt we have signed.
3. Yes.
4. There are some (see list above as I do not know them all)
5. We love the shirt we had signed for DS a couple of years ago. We got a white WDW one with a bunch of characters on the front. Had them sign all around on the front. Got it BIG, and he still wears it all the time!

One other possible suggestion. I have used sharpies for autographs on other types of materials, and eventually they start to wear out as the items get washed (our hockey jerseys come to mind most). When we did DS's shirt, I bought permanent fabric markers. Came in lots of colors, and the autographs still look great!

Can't really answer the questions about the shirt since I've never done that, but I'll try my best to answer your other questions

Yes there are. Most of the time when I was meeting the characters I didn't even need to ask, they just volunteered to take my photo with them. Some characters also have Photopass photographers there as well (I know that all the characters at the Character Connection and some of the characters at the Sorcerer's Hat all did. I think other locations had them too, but I don't remember which).

Here are a few that I know of:
Sully
Mike Wazowski
King Louie
Bullseye
Nemo
Lightning McQueen

Characters That Sometimes Sign but sometimes don't:
Beast
Mr. Penguin
Little John
Seven Dwarfs

Character That Stamp instead of sign:
Buzz Lightyear
Woody (sometimes signs)
Mr. Incredible
Mrs. Incredinle
Frozone

Two characters that I'm not sure about are Figment (he wasn't signing when I met him, but I've heard that he might be stamping now) and Goliath from JoJo's Circus (since I've never met him).

Some characters also have Photopass photographers

Will the PhotoPass photographers take a picture with your camera too or not?

Not sure how well this would work- why not just get autographs the regular way, scan them into your computer (if you have a scanner), use some software to place them where you want on a larger scale, print them out on iron on transfer paper, then iron them on to the tee shirt. I think the signatures would come out neater vs using a Sharpie which might bleed/run when signing or washing???? Plus once you have the layout, you could print out several to make more tee shirts. Just an idea...

I have heard, but have no personal experience with it..
Tha some characters will not use markers b/c of the permanent ink getting on the costume??

Any truth to that?? If so, OP, you may have a problem.

We did this last year and it worked out well...my husband is an artist and had painted a mural of the castle w/all the characters around it (which we were shocked to see the gold decorations looked just like his mural!) on my DS's wall...we used a photo of that on the front of the shirt and had the signatures on the back. We are using this for shirts to wear this October on our return trip. The only thing is is that it looks so GOOD that they don't seem like real signatures!

Sharpies eventually do fade and the poster who said fabric markers was right-on, if you want to go that route and for sure use the hoop, that will hold the fabric taut while they sign. We do this every year at the San Diego ComicCon and the shirts always look awesome!

We haven't had any problems with them. The last week of August, DS wanted a regular autograph book, so we used the sharpies in different colors for all of the autographs he got. No problems...and lots (LOTS) of other people were using them, too. They are one of the fatter type of pens/markers out there and are easy for them to grab...just be sure to hand it to them with the point away from them. We had a few that seemed greatful that we did it that way...but if we were using regular pens I would do it the same way. Makes it easier for them to set up to write...

Some characters sign using pre-inked stamps. Be sure to avoid these as the ink isn't perm. and is likely to run in the wash.
