OK, I'll be taking my 2 children to WDW March of next year. By then, my daughter will be 2 years 3 months, my son just 1 year. While it may not even be an issue, I'm curious, what do you say to your child when the character (obviously) does not say anything? Sure I've heard silly sounds and smooches when I get a character hug, but if a child says Hi to Mickey and he just waves back, do the kids ever wonder why?
Curious.
Bob.

We told our DS's, who were 5 & 3 at the time, that just as Ariel had to give up her voice to come to the Human world from the Sea, the cartoon characters have to give up their voices to come from the Toon World to the Real world.

I told my son that if they talked to everyone they would get a sore throat from talking so much, so to be fair, they just don't talk to anyone. It worked at the time!

Jordan's Mom

Same story as Super Mom. They bought it at the time.

I guess my daughter analyzes too much because I tried the reasons stated above but then she says things like "well, what about the Princesses at Cinderella's castle, they all talk?" Then she has also said "well, if they can't talk to us, why do they talk during shows?" She's always coming up with a counter argument. I fear the end is near. I just hope she doesn't ruin it for our 2 year old.
