Character proposal question

Hi everyone!

Well my time to propose has come and I decided to do it in Disney for various reasons but the most important one is because it's magical!

I just wanted some input regarding characters and privacy

My partner is quite shy and I was wondering if there was a character meet that I could propose to her that had a bit of privacy. Kind of like Ariel in her grotto no people in the line-up watching.

I think she would prefer a character that doesn't speak for example Mickey

Thanks and I hope I can get some ideas! :)

We did most of the character meets and I'm really struggling to come up with one that's both private and includes a fur vs a face character... There are more several private meets but all I remember (Ariel, Tink, Mickey) all talk... Yes even Mickey talks in Town Square - at least most of the time. Mickey and Minnie in Animal Kingdom was more private when we were there only 2-3 groups in the room. If you went last it would probably be pretty private...

Do you have a Disney Visa? It's been a while since we did it, but if I remember correctly the Visa Meet & Greet in Epcot was rather private and it had Mickey and Pluto our last time there--although I understand they might change. I believe you went around a curtain type thing and at most there was one other family waiting their turn. Maybe others who have been more recently could say whether it's still the same.

Thanks for the input guys! Anyone have experience with character proposals?

No I don't have a Disney Visa. I'm Canadian

Hi and congratulations!
Sounds like you really want to propose with a character but if privacy is more important then you might think about one of the resorts. There are so many lovely and private spots at the MK resorts. You don't have to be a guest there to visit and take in the grounds. So many spots near the lake that look out at the park and castle that might be perfect. Maybe even time things so you can watch the fireworks after she says yes.

Good luck!!

At Minnie and Mickey's Meet in Animal Kingdom (the Adventurer's Outpost), only the next family in line can see your meet, and even they are back and off to the side.

Chewbacca's M&G in Hollywood Studios was private when I went, although he's not especially romantic unless you're both big Star Wars fans.

You mentioned Ariel, but if pictures are at all important to you, I'd pick someone else - the lighting in her Grotto is awful, even on the official Photopass pictures.

With Tinkerbell, there is a small group in the room with you, but the line is kept back and sort of behind some of the decorations, so it's not as direct of a view as most other characters.

I haven't visited the talking Mickey yet, so I'm not sure how his line works, but he seems like a cool option, too.

Another I haven't visited yet is Buzz and Woody in Hollywood Studios, but I think from photos I've seen that their line might stop around the corner, at least mostly out of sight. Can anyone confirm?

That's all I can think of for now... Good luck!

Just went end of January and is still true. One group is leaving, one group is getting their picture taken, and the other one is starting to come in the area from behind the curtain. It is very less rushed than any of the other meets and the space is rather large.

The other one that was pretty secluded was Pooh and Tigger in Epcot (England). We were the only ones there as they were coming back from their rest break. It appears the line stays outside the building, so maybe only 1 or 2 people could see inside of the family that was getting the picture taken. It was made to look like Christopher Robin's room. Some of the best pictures came from that one.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, they closed the Christopher Robin's Room M&G in Epcot last month, so that one's not available any more. :(

Off the top of my head, the best bet would be one of the rooms in Princess Fairytale Hall (Cinderella/Rapunzel and Anna/Elsa)

They let a set number of people in, and then clear or almost clear the line before letting the next group in.

If you were able to clue in the line attendants to your plan and ask to be the last in a group, then it is possible to be the only ones in the room with the princesses.

You might also be able to plan and be the last group in line (a little harder to coordinate without her knowing) so even if you are outside, there's not a line of people waiting for you to finish.

But if she really wants privacy, you could very easily find another spot, and then take photos with the characters after. The just engaged buttons are great, and I have seen some other couples do creative things like bringing in a sketchbook and writing different things (just engaged, she/i said yes, etc) and then posing with those signs and the characters. This way you get to have your moment, but still celebrate with some Disney magic

If you want fun after the fact Baloo and King Louie are GREAT because King Louie is always looking for treasure for his treasure chest. We were wearing (custom made) just married buttons and I was wearing my wedding and engagement rings and my pandora bracelet and I have awesome photos with king louie eyeing them up. As well as Baloo dismissing the engagement ring as too small.......hehe....poor hubby...

Wow, Thanks everyone for such great ideas! I am still conflicted since now she is saying she is apprehensive about meeting characters (it's her first visit) so she's pretty shy.

I'm wondering now about other places in MK that are more secluded. Just a bit of privacy.

The place that holds the most significance for me is the sword in the stone but I think that is super public right??

Anyone know what cinderella's fountain looks like for proposals?

Yeah, both of those are in main walkways, so they stay pretty busy.

If you can get the timing right, Tiana's gazebo would be really pretty and fairly private if you can find a time when she'll be gone for at least an hour. As long as she's not coming back soon, there shouldn't be anybody around.

Another option could be on Tom Sawyer's island. It's usually pretty quiet back there, and it's pretty picturesque, too.

The rose garden area of MK is private and beautiful. It is to the right of the castle, if coming from main street. My DH and I did something private there, that we will forever remember.

Well that rose garden is gone so it will have to live in that ...interesting... memory. The fountain can be quiet at certain times. There's a path from Storybook Circus to tomorrowland that runs near the train tracks. It's usually deserted and very pretty.

wow it wasn't a dirty experience, we paid tribute to our twin son that died 2 years prior (his sister made it and he did not. We have taken all our kids to Disney, since they were little babies, and he never had the chance to go. I wanted somewhere private to have a remembrance of him with my DH as we watched the fireworks.

And we were just there in 2014, when did they get rid of it?

Okay I appologize if I misinterpreted that comment. The garden was removed at the end of 2014 to make way for the hub expansion.

please keep in mind that for the initial proposal the character does have to step out of the photoframe, Characters including face characters are not permitted to be in the initial photo while the proposal is happening, however they are welcome to pose for photos with the happy couple showing off the ring afterwards.
