Character Performer Audition Question

I have a phone interview scheduled for next Thursday (I'm being optimistic!), but seeing at some of the auditions are coming up prior to then, I have a few questions that some of you guys might be able to help me with.

Let me first explain my situation. I live in Orlando, but I attend school in the middle of nowhere Alabama. Unfortunately, none of the character performer auditions work at a time I can make because almost all of them are on school days.

So I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with! The electronic audition on September 28th doesn't specify whether people who are interested in the college program can apply or not, does anyone know if we can? Also, there is an open audition on October 25th(ish?) in Orlando that doesn't specifically say college program, but says that current college program participants cannot audition (does that mean for spring college program people as well)? And does anyone know if there should be any more audition opportunities in November? I'm afraid to apply to the electronic audition or any of the others because I know Disney doesn't let you re-audition for six months.

I know I have a little ways to go before I find out if I am accepted to the program, but I want to plan ahead and be prepared. If anyone has information, please let me know! Thank you!

If you're talking about the CP, there usually is only one audition per city, and that's the audition to be considered for a CP term.

However, Disney does standard Character Performer/Lookalike auditions once every few weeks.

The electronic audition is for face lookalikes- because they won't be testing your movement or your animation, you should be fine in going to another, but I'd email them just in case. And I don't think you'd be able to be considered for a College Program based off that audition because it's not a CP audition.

The October 25th one is just for full-time (and/or part time, I think, not sure), and is probably not for the College Program.

You have to physically be present at one of those locations to be considered for the CP Character Performer.

Just to further elaborate on the above point, if the audition does not specifically say it it for the College Program then it will not be counted as an audition for Spring CPers.

Thanks for the responses! I think I'm going to skip all my classes and attend the Atlanta audition. Follow up question: Realistically, what are the chances of being cast as any type of character/dancer etc.? I have 17 years of dance experience, but obviously it's difficult to get an accurate feel of ability via the internet. But is it like a normal Disney audition where 300 people file into a room in groups of 50 and maybe 3 are chosen, and maybe one of those 3 people might get a spot if they're lucky? Or do they accept more people because it's characters and parade performers, etc.?

Keep in mind that this answer is based on information from previous CP students, so it may or may not be accurate!

From what I've seen, usually there are between 150-250 CP students with the character performer role chosen each program. And I've heard that somewhere between 4,000-5,000 students participate each year. So that's roughly between 3%-5% of CP students are character performers. Most people report only meeting between 1-5 people during their program that are friends with face, so obviously face is extremely rare.

Most audition locations have between 70-200 students attend! Usually if your dancing is strong, they will hold you for a more advanced dance (which could make you eligible for parades!) and some may be held for face. You dance experience will definitely be helpful for your audition process, but keep in mind that they want more than just talent! They want some pixie dust too

Although there aren't many students cast in entertainment, keep in mind that it is most definitely possible! Just go in there and show the judges that you are having a great time and loving what you are doing! And be over the top and you'll do fine!

What they're looking for is your basic ability to animate, or to tell a story using your body. Your movements should be big, exaggerated, and happy. And of course, your height helps, but if you can't animate, it hurts your chances

So I just auditioned today for a character performer role for Spring 2013!
Does anyone know if you get an acceptance letter, will it say whether you are a face character, fuzzy character, or parade performer? Or does it just say you got accepted as a Character performer?

How did your audition go!? Mine was so much fun. I made it through the first (and only) cut. And after we went through and did a more difficult dance they told like five people to stay to learn a harder dance. I'm not sure how they decided who those five people were; two of them never danced before, while those who have danced since forever weren't asked to stay (still hope they would consider us for parade performer). I wonder if they want to see if those five people were versatile enough to do face and to dance because at least two of the girls asked to stay was one of the ones they did a normal and profile shot of. I hope they pick more than just those five people though! Can't wait to hear back. :]

So I went to the Denver auditions, and they said that if they didn't ask you to stay it didn't mean you didn't get a role.

If they asked you to stay, it just meant that they didn't have any questions about whether you'd be good for any of the roles or not.

I'm exactly 5'7, have had a lot of dancing/acting experience and I was really cheerful during the audition. I gave them a resume and a head shot. I thought my audition went really well.

Do I still have a chance?

I'm not sure which casting directors you had, but when I auditioned we had Kent (who is seriously one of the nicest human beings ever), and he made a big point of saying that asking people to stay had nothing to do with who was getting hired. He even said that he has hired people who couldn't do much more than marching in place for the dance portion. It's really mostly about what they see in the animations portion.

This is the most lifting thing I've heard in a little while when it comes to auditions- I auditioned a few weeks ago and can't wait to hear. They didn't ask me to stay, but I still have hope because I (would like to think that I) did well at the animation portion. Also, I read your blog- congrats on Disneyland- mind talking about the audition you went through there?

I know the slip they handed us said before December 14, but my phone interviewer said it's usually another two weeks from your audition. I think it's been longer than two weeks for the first auditions. Wonder when they'll start sending emails?

It's supposed to be two weeks after the last audition which was this weekend ... so think mid november

My audition went well. They did one cut, I made it through that onto the "harder" dance. I wasn't one of the 5 or 6 people they asked to stay afterwards though to learn a harder dance, so I'm not sure what that means. I really want to be a parade performer because I've been competitively dancing for 17 years, so I don't know if only those people are being considered or what, because four of them had never danced before...
