Do you have to be staying in one of the Disney hotels to have a character meal at their restaurants? I imagine that would apply to the Grand Californian and Paradise Pier breakfasts but maybe not the meals at Goofy's Kitchen?

No, you don't have to be staying at the hotel. Just call and make reservation well enough in advance!

we went to ariel's grotto inside DCA for the first time yesterday and had an AWESOME time. Every 5-10 minutes we had a character come and greeted us! you do not have to be a guest at the hotels. on the disneyland resort property, there are pay phones...on the payphones are little yellow buttons. look for the button that says "Disney Dining" and you can make your priority seating thru there.

I agree with Diva of Dragons. Make reservations through 714-781-DINE well in advance. Character meals book up during the busy season. The cast member taking your reservation may ask if you are staying at one of the hotels, but you can still make reservations for any of the restaurants if you are staying off-site. Goofy's is my favorite. I especially like it at lunch time after a morning of play. There's a great variety on the buffet (breakfast and lunch selections), and the characters give your party plenty of attention.

I was wondering which characters were present at your meal????

Mickey dressed as the captain, Minnie also dressed like she was on the Disney Cruise, Goofy with his rubber ducky floatie, Donald, Chip & Dale, Max (Goofy's son). That was it. Just the Fab Five plus Max. It was great though!
