I'm in the process of googling, but you guys are always on top of it so I'll ask here, too.

We have Goofy's reservations for dinner but with what I have read about the downsizing of characters, I'm considering canceling those. We have Plaza Inn breakfast reservations and really don't want to do more than one breakfast since we aren't huge breakfast eaters (as it is, only DD & I will do Minnie's because DH doesn't feel justified spending the money for breakfast for him).

Is there a Storytellers dinner? Or a Surf's Up dinner? Or are those both breakfast only?

Surfs Up and Storytellers are character meals for breakfast only.

The only character dinner is at Goofy's. I think Ariel's is still a character meal at lunch, but you'll need to verify.

We did Surfs Up breakfast last year in December.
Characters we saw: Minnie, Daisy, Pluto, Mickey, and Stitch.
The breakfast was buffet style but the waitress takes your drink orders.
The kids were asked to come to the front to dance with the characters and take pictures.

Also, while you're eating the characters come to every table. My daughter's favorite was when Stitch licked her hair ;)

It's a great place to get all your autographs & character pix!

However, the kids were so distracted by the characters that they forgot to eat!

This year we're planning on going to California Adventure's Ariel's grotto which has lunch & dinner princess characters.
Hope this helps

Ariel's doesn't have princesses at dinner. The dinner gets you World of Color passes, but no characters. :(

I'm with your husband. I hate spending tons of cash for breakfast. There's just something not right about it. Now lunch or dinner.... that's worth spending money on. We're booked for Goofy's for "brunch" at around 11:30. That seems worth it to me because that meal will last all day plus we get to see some characters. We did Mickey's Surf's Up Breakfast last year, and as fun as it was, I can't justify dropping another $100 for a breakfast on our next trip.

For those who are razzing on Goofy's for ONLY having 5 characters, I don't see this as a bad thing. If you go to WDW, each character dining has the same set of 5 characters every single time you go to it. And you know what? I still go eat there because I love it and the kids love it. Most people like to know what they're going to get, so Goofy's fits that bill. We're hanging on to our reservations in spite of all the angst. And again, it's because I can't spend all that dough on breakfast.

It was one of the things we thought DL was better at. And for us it's not just that it's "only" five. It's that it's static just like the character meals that have been the same at WDW since we started going in 2004. I loved the randomness of it. Now ever trip will be the same. So I guess our choice is to stop doing GK every trip to risk becoming bored with it like we are with the WDW character meals.

I regret not doing Minnie's last time but planning on it for our next trip.

I will say that our experience with characters at DL Surf's up far surpassed any we have had at WDW. (we have tried them all) I loved the food but dh still preferred Crystal Palace in WDW. I really hope to do more on this next trip. We love breakfast food and usually book the latest one so we only eat 2x with snacks. The sticker shock though is hard, especially when DL has so many awesome quick service restaurants to choose from.

We are going to keep our Goofy's reservations as well as our Plaza Inn for DD and me. I am sure we will be fine with fewer characters at Goofy's
