I am thinking of making some easy shirts that I saw a long time back on the Budget Board. (Well, I am buying shirts but doing the decorated part myself.) If I bring fabric markers with me, do you think the characters can sign my kid's shirts instead of an autograph book or whatever? Just thought it might be a more fun and useable souveneir. HOwever, I don't want to cause a hassle for the characters.

I think it's a great idea - however I've read that characters will NOT sign on something the child (or person) is wearing.

So if you just bring the shirts that will work out just fine IMO.

I agree, you have to bring the shirts -- they won't sign if you're wearing them at the time. ;)

I bought a rigger t (white body, royal blue sleeves) at old navy to use as an autograph t for my DS a few years ago and it turned out great. We used fabric markers. Mary Poppins was very helpful in showing me how to hold the t taught to make it easier for the characters to sign it.

I did find that when we saw more than one character at a time sometimes the first signature would smudge a bit when we were holding the t for the next character.

The characters will not sign shirts while someone is wearing them, so you'll need to carry them. I once saw someone say they brought a needlepoint frame to make it easier for the characters to sign the shirt.

I took a Chef Coat for the Characters to sign for my DS he is 2. To make it easier for the Characters I took and embroidery Hoop about 6" and stretched it where I wanted them to sign and moved it after each character. It's hard for them to sign if its not stretched tight and you want to remember to keep the front away from the back so it doesn't bleed, but you certainly can do it families do it all the time! Have fun!

Good to know. This is for Chef Mickey's only so, I will have to figure out if it's doable with table space etc.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

We did this with my grand daughter a few years ago. Another thing to remember is to be careful which direction you have the embroidery hoop. Reposition it after each character signs it, but make sure every time the metal part of the hoop (the screw part that tightens) is at the top. If you are not careful, you may get an autograph (or two) that's upside down.:rolleyes1:rotfl:

Not that you speak from experience or anything, huh? ;)

An alternative to the hoop would be a clipboard (inside the tee) or stiff cardboard and a couple clothespins. Just in case you're packing and realized you forgot to buy a hoop and the nearest craft store is closed. (I sew and I think I have a hoop, but NO clue where ;) )

We used permanent markers and stretched the shirt over the autograph book. What markers are best? That will write the best and not wash out? Are there different kinds of fabric pens? Thank you!

We used tshirts bought online that had the characters we expected to see at meals.

I love this idea. We already have a couple of autograph books. I can always count on the DIS boards to uncover a new WDW must do.

Thanks!
