"One time my sister and I saw Peter Pan getting ready to go into a parade. I yelled at him to look so I could get his picture and he said "Bite me!" and took off."

:rotfl: That still cracks me up. Guess I need to grow up. :teeth:[/QUOTE

:rotfl: Oh my sides hurt! My DD and I saw Peter "make an adjustment" last year. We politely looked away. We know how tights can be.

I've posted this one before, but it still makes me laugh so I'll post it again for those of you who haven't heard the story. A few years ago when I did my college program I was leaving in the afternoon as the Mulan Parade was going on. The final float (with Mulan and Shang) was still waiting backstage for the couple floats ahead to go so there were a number of handlers for the horses and others working the parade chatting til it was time to lead the horses and float to the gate. I could hear everyone laughing and as I got closer I could hear Mulan at the top, pounding her fist yelling "I demand a straight Shang! It's in my contract!" All jokingly of course - even "Shang" was laughing.

How about a funny story about a character staying VERY in character? Another day on my CP a few characters were milling around the store. Must've been a slow day for meet and greets (or they were tired of meeting and greeting) so they were hanging out in our store BSing. It was "Aladdin", "Shang" (different Shang from before), and "Clopin" (from Hunchback - the jester) We're standing there talking to "Aladdin" and "Shang" while "Clopin" is just wandering around the store goofing off and playing around. This was the Indy Outpost and at the time we sold little rugs, not sure if they still do or not. They were rolled up and in a big vase by the door. Over the displays we see him lifting one high in the air and yelling excitedly, "Aladdin! I found Carpet!!"

I wish I could have been there to see that!!

Not a physcial goof up - but I have Pinocchio's autograph from two separate times - and one of them is spelled Pinnochio and the other Pinocchio (the correct way!!!!). I guess having missed so much school when he was out off playing he had trouble with his spelling!!!

this is actually from 4EverFigment:

We were at AK at Camp MinnieMickey on the character trails. We'd gotten almost to the front of Goofy's line. I firmly believe that the more fun the family has "with" the characters, the more fun it is for them, the more fun is had by all. So after Goofy had to "go check on Max," the family ahead of us did their thing, and I launched into mine. "Goofy, you're soooo handsome....You know you're my absolute favorite...." and so on. Goofy took my arm and started to lead me backstage! We got pretty much all the way to the gate, way down the path out of everyone's line of sight, before we turned back. The attendant AND the photopass person, and my 6 yr old son, and my mom had NO idea what to do about it! I don't know if that counts as breaking character or adding to the magic but either way it's a cool Goofy story!

We had a character lunch at the Crystal Palace a few weeks ago and we could just tell that Pooh was not in a good mood. Eeyore, Piglet, and Tigger were great, but we could tell that Pooh had a chip on his shoulder that day. We kept hoping that he would get replaced with a happier Pooh one of those times they went in the back!

I don't think I have ever really seen a character out of character.

I have had a few less than sweet princesses, but not many. Aurora once wiped my DD's kiss off. We have it on video since she wiped it almost immediately. Oh well, I can understand wiping it off, but I wish she would have waited till my DD walked away.

Off topic- We had a funny experience with the Evil Queen. DD was only 8 months at the time. The Queen kept saying, "What is that thing?, That thing is drooling. Do you really like that thing?".... It was so funny. We were waiting for a picture but she just kept talking about our "thing". DD had a lipstick kiss on her cheek from Snow White. Well, the Queen looked at the kiss and asked "Who ruined this thing?". When we said it was Snow White she went on and on about how we let Snow White ruin her. We laughed so hard! She was fun. :thumbsup2

Maybe she was rubbing the kiss in? :teeth: :rotfl:

Judging by her look of disgust I doubt it. :scared:

I'll tell my DD that she was rubbing it in, that's a great suggestion! ;)

None of these were on stage, so they don't really count.

But...

I've seen most of the characters in Studios' Stars and Motorcars parade half out of costume after the parade. I was almost knocked over by an Indiana Jones who was, apparently, very eager to get back to his trailer after a show. My favorite one, however, was Darth Vader. Of course, Darth Vader doesn't speak out in the parks. One day I was leaving a little early from work and Star Tours had broken down so they decided to whip out the Vader to entertain the large group who was waiting for ST to come back up. I had just passed through the gate to get back stage and heard Vader and his character greeter chatting on the way to the on stage area. This guy did not have a high voice or anything like that - he had a completely normal voice - but to hear anybody other than James Earl Jones coming out of that costume was very odd!

last year at Crystal Palace for breakfast Piglet came over and DD2 looked terified, and cried, (her finger had gotten caught in high chair, ouch)but Piglet thought DD was scared of him, when I reassured DD and checked her hand and told Piglet that DD wasnt afraid of him (as she was totally a character lover and had been all week long already!) Piglet kept shaking his finger at me and stamping his foot like I was a bad Mom making him come over to our table when DD was scared(which she was NOT), Piglet kept stamping louder and louder (angrily) and it really ruined my breakfast...Piglet refused to come close to us at all. Who was Piglet to judge me right?? LOL :rotfl:

Are the CM's with the characters really called 'handler's'? :confused3
That sounds so savage.

I know it sounds savage, but if it's not the term "officially" used at Disney, it's the term used by just about any other costumed character/mascot/fursuiter/etc and helper team elsewhere, and friends who are both current and ex characters at both the Land and the World have referred to their "other halfs" as their handlers when I've talked to them, so it's at least acceptable.

Actually I've never heard them referred to as anything but by them, but both friends also do suiting off property so I don't know if it's habit. :confused3

Oh my! I'm glad you started this thread! I am going to put this in my trip report...but wasnt going to say anything otherwise...but now I have to share.
BF and I were in Animal Kingdom and went to the character connection back by the lion king show.
Goofy was really hamming it up-trying to get kids to dance with him, putting his hands in front of their faces -when the photo pass guy said "Goofy, I can't see the kids!" Goofy just pointed to his face as to say he was the important one in the photo...he was our best character interaction...
Well, the above stories are about other peoples kids...BF and I dont have any...So, to see how these characters interact with adults is always fun...and Goofy was the best!
I went up to hug him...and he wouldnt let me go...AT ALL. Photopass guy told BF to get in the photo so, BF is laughing and Goofy wasnt having BF get the girl...BF is really great about just getting the shot and letting the kids get in for interaction (I guess he feels like we are really guests in their world...now you see why i love him!) Well, Goofy wasnt giving up...So, BF tells him that he better be careful b/c I have to go to the bathroom. So, Goofy takes my hand and we head off torward the bathroom. So, BF comes up behind us and says "Goofy be careful...she might dribble on you." well, Goofy lost it! You know that stiffled laugh like when you're just about ready to bust out laughing but you cover it up with your hand?? Thats excatly what happened. It took him a moment to recover...but he was laughing pretty hard...It gave us a great memory

(sorry this is so long)

Thanks for sharing! :rotfl2:

Sorry if this takes all the magic away, but when our marching band went, we got to go backstage. Talk about strange! Characters with no heads on. Floats being set up. Locker rooms, etc. Not really a goof up, but just another perspective.

I was there with my highschool band, too, and we had an interesting experiance. While we were waiting for our turn to perform Pluto came RUNNING backstage with his handler right behind him. We 15 year old girls were all so excited to see him, until he ripped of his head and threw up everywhere! :rotfl2: I guess it gets pretty hot in those costumes! I will never forget the look on the CMs face. Kinda a mix between "Im so, so sorry for spoiling your magical time" and "quit staring at me. I just chucked my kibble". :rotfl:

Thanks for your perspective. I'm glad to know it's acceptable even though it sounds so primitive.
Onward handlers!

The wicked witch from snow white was playing fisbee with a guy at MGM.. the handler was getting upset wanting to go... kept telling the witch to come on but she ignored him and kept playing frisbee:)

A long time ago, we were in Town Square and Goofy was there. Then all of a sudden another Goofy comes out of the door. It only took him a few seconds to see the other Goofy and ran back inside. It was funny for those whole 5 seconds to see 2 Goofys so close to eachother!!!! :p

it's rare but it happens.

to be honest Mickey use to have sets at teh flag pole while Mickey was at Cinderella surprise. They use to do a funny gag where when a certain part of the music played they would turn look at each other and wave.

once i saw goofy outside character connetion and if i looked to my left I could see Space Goofy.

that situation you described was problably an accident, where they sent somebody to do goofy at town square not relizing that one was already there.

I think they are called escorts. My friend wanted me to post this for her. We were at MGM and I had to stop and get a picture wil Kim Possible and Ron Stopable. I got my picture and walked away well my friend had to stay and of course hit on Ron asking him if his eyes were really that blue or if they were contacts and apparently he opened his eye and showed her they were not contacts. And on our way down the street Ron Stopable yelled "I love you" to my friend. I don't think he really came out of charater but he was close.

We watch KP all the time. Ron isn't "lucky with the ladies" if you know what I mean, so for someone to give him that much attention....he must have been :cloud9: . Totally in character!! :goodvibes
