Character Dinner Question

My family will be traveling to WDW the first of August. I have made most of our dinner reservations, several are character meals, but I have a question. We have reservations to go to Mickey's Backyard BBQ one evening, but I am not sure if I should keep it or not. I am weighing out HOT weather and leaving the Magic Kingdom to go to the dinner with the characters... If anyone has seen this show, I would love your input... Is it worth going to see?

We went a couple years ago in March & my kids (3 & 5 at the time loved it). The food was OK, nothing great. The kids loved the ice cream for dessert. The meal came with beer & wine also. The kids really loved the chance they had to dance with the characters. We are coming back in December and are doing this meal again. It does take an entire evening, so if your trip is short you may value your time at the park more. Our first trip was 5 days & this one is 7 and don't mind losing an evening at the park.
