I was just wondering can you share plates at the character dining restaurants if you don't have the dining plan? These are the restaurants I am looking at. Crystal Palace, Hollywood and Vine, O'hana, and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. Please help! I have to decide soon to make me resvatation. THANKS!

No.

Each and every person over the age of 2 will be charged for the meal at all buffet and all-you-care-to-enjoy restaurants.

It seems like some of the ones that we like aren't buffets. So can we share on those. Or are they all buffet and I just can't tell. Sorry. It my first time and this is very confusing for me

All character meals are buffet or aycte.

All character meals are buffets, AYCE family style, or fixed price, meaning you are charged per person instead of per item ordered. No sharing. Only children age 0-2 will not be charged.

Crystal Palace, Hollywood and Vine, O'hana, and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall.

These are all either buffet or all you care to eat restaurants. In these situations, anyone at the table will be charged no matter if paying out of pocket or with the dining plan.

No. You cannot share and everyone 3 years and older will be charged at buffets, all you care to eat Family Style venues, fixed price meals (e.g. CRT, Akershus), Fantasmic! and Candlelight Processional Dining Packages, special events (e.g. Fireworks Dessert parties), dinner shows (Hoop De Doo, Spirit of Aloha Luau, Mickey's Backyard Barbecue), the family platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe and any special event meals (e.g. Dine with an Imagineer or Animal Specialist.)

Crystal Palace, Hollywood and Vine, O'hana, and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall.
Crystal Palace and Hollywood and Vine are buffets, 'Ohana is a family style meal for both breakfast and dinner, and Akershus is a fixed price meal so everyone 3 and up will be charged. There are no character meals where you can share.

The closest would be Be Our Guest at dinner where there is a photo op with the Beast after you finish dining. No characters visit the tables however so it is not described as a character meal. You order from an a la carte menu so you can share at this restaurant.

OP- I read both threads, and I think I know what the confusion stems from. Disney discovered that people were sharing DDP credits with people who did nto pay for the plan, and they did this by sharing meals. This could never happen in a buffet otr an AYCTE establishment, but it did happen elsewhae, so no more sharing when in the DDP.

Now if you pay OOP, you can share whatever you want, unless you are in a buffet, character meal, dinner show or an AYCTE restaurant. Children under three always can share, or eat from a buffet, but if you want them to have their own meal, you must pay for it.

There is no way to mitigate the cost of character meals. Everyone over the age of three must pay their freight. If you are tying to conain teh cost of dining, I suggest you check out the menus and the characters present, and then choose one or two of them, stick with breakfast because those meals are less expensive, and then choose retaurants that have meas that are in your price range. If you find that your family wants more buffet type meals, price the DDP against teh costs of OOP dining. Those meals are expensive and you may find you save money.
