I have been to Disney for the past two years with my DDs, 3 and 5. We are planning a trip in December. I really want to try Cape May and Ohana since we have not been to either. We love 1900 Park Fare and will probably go back. Any other suggestions for dining that is NOT character related, something my small girls will enjoy? Or should I just pull out some more character meals we have done in the past and plan for them. How is the Polynesian Luau for small kids?

We were just at Disney last week and we went to the Luau and it was great I have a 6 and a 9 year old and I do not think they blinked the whole time. When we go next year we will do it again.:cool1:

I really really think (and post regularly!) that the vast majority of Disney restaurants are wonderful for younger kids. They all have great kids menus and give you the opportunity to try something new.
Now my little guy is in that crazy toddler stage so I would not currently take him to a signature - but I would totally take my calm DD.
So I would just decide if you think that they could handle a signature and then take a look at the menus - pick 2 that you would really like to try and then decide which would be best for your girls. Pick a restaurant you would really like too!
Try Cape May and/or Ohana! Other thoughts - 50's PT or Sci-Fi, Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch or dinner), the Plaza is small and very calm, San Angel Inn, Chefs de France (Remy!), Tutto Italia... really I love all of EPCOT for kids...
We are trying Via Napoli this fall....

I don't know what the weather is like in December as I have never been then, but I do know that they cancel the Luau if the temperature drops below 50 degrees. We were signed up for one at end of March a few years back (it was around 3/19 or 3/20) and it was cancelled as the temperature dropped below 50. I don't know if it was unseasonably cold then or what, as we usually go in April or September. We did get a refund but something to keep in mind during winter months.

O'Hana, Whispering Canyon, Sci-Fi all have themes and a little extra without characters. My kids like all of these. We also enjoy Cape May Clambake, Marakesh (kids like the belly dancer), and most restaurants at Epcot. As someone else posted, most WDW restaurants are very welcoming to kids and families!

You might want to try the Garden View afternoon tea with your girls as something special. They would be a fun age to have a girly afternoon. Have fun!!:)

DS really like the food at Ohana dinner and there is "entertainment"

DS also really liked Sci Fi for eating in a car

We are also going to try Chefs de France (we are hoping to see Remy, but if not, my DS loves that movie so I think he would be happy just knowing that it is Remy's place-I'll tell him he is busy in the kitchen if he doesn't make an appearance)

T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe-I know not on dining plan (although they can be loud-my DS loved TRex at 3 and Rainforest at 4 years old)

HDDR? I haven't been but sounds like fun

WCC?

Teppan Edo? Although if you have hibachi where you live, this might not be the greatest (but my DS loves going to hibachi where we live)

For characters and food, we really loved Tusker House breakfast and are trying Crystal Palace breakfast this year
