Character Dining Returning to Liberty Tree Tavern

There are some other disney fan sites (Jim Hill Media) that are reporting that the character meal is going to return to Liberty Tree Tavern, probably around Easter. It seems that the restaurant has seen a significant downturn in guests since the characters were given their walking papers.

There are a couple of threads on this already over on the rumor boards. And that's what this is...just a rumor.

Edited to add: I see this has just been moved to the rumor boards. Good idea!

To put things in perspective, Jim Hill Media published an article in April 2006 that said Disney Quest would be closing by early 2008. We all know how that worked out.

Yay! I hope they are returning the characters. It just adds to the fun of eating there. It is kind of weird though. You would think that people would be eating there anyways, considering how many want to go to a resturant as long as they have food.

I hope this is true. I would not go back to the restaurant until the characters return. I wouln't pay that price for that food in the absence of entertainment. Fingers crossed for their happy return!!

I hope it's not true. We made reservations there for our next trip in May based on the fact it would not be a character meal. We wanted something a little more relaxed than a character meal would be. LTT without characters certainly provided the opportunity for a nice meal in MK which no other restaurant does.

I would love this to be true. When I go in May, we're eating at the LTT for dinner the day we're at the Magic Kingdom. The Unofficial Guide even said that Meeko was occasionally at the LTT Character dinner.......so would this mean IF its true, that I might see Meeko? Would all dinners @ LTT have characters?

Also hoping this is true, we like the character meal here on our last trip, celebrated my daughters 5th birthday here. The food was OK, but the characters made the dinner wonderful and entertaining .

I really hate to burst everyone's bubble, but it appears that Jim Hill has recanted his story (sort of)!

Due to the overwhelming succes of Disney's 4+3 promotion to get masses into the parks, LTT is actually having to turn people away. Now JH is reporting that if the characters do come back, it probably won't be until September when the crowds MIGHT slow down. I really hope the characters do come back by September. Otherwise LTT will be one place we skip during our next trip. The food is OK, but it just wouldn't be the same without GOOFY!

Removing the characters from Liberty Tree Tavern was a large mistake. Years ago when characters were not at the restuarant there was a full service menu (similarly so was the Grill Room at the Land in Epcot). Once they placed characters at these locations the menu was changed to a family style set menu. Prices continued to increase, but guests would pay for the chance to interact with the characters in a semi private setting. Removing the characters caused a huge percentage of guests to look elsewhere for dining options (especially at that price!). Only a fool would not realize the negative impact of removing the characters would have. Obviously Disney has forgotten the days in the 1970's and early 1980's when you would have to book over 6 months in advance to dine at "Dinner Al La Disney" or with Captain Mickey aboard the Empress Lilly. Hopefully they have learned their lesson!
