What happened? I went to make ADRs for CRT and Akershus for upcoming vacation and was informed that all meals at these restaurants are now, or soon to become, character dining and they require a credit card reservation. I couldn't believe how pricey both places were now that we as guests are privileged to enjoy character dining without any other options.

We have enjoyed CRT several times but I've never been able to convince the fam (four kids aged 18,15,11,7) to try Akershus. They expressed willingness this trip to try Akershus and I was excited to give it a go. Unfortunately we would be in over $200 for each meal if we were to eat at either place. No thanks. I think I'll avoid both on principle.

Any comments?

Akershus was one of my personal favorites for many years. However, it was clear that the place was under-utilized. I never had any trouble walking in for a meal. That doesn't bode well for a restaurant at Epcot. At the same time, I'd walk past all these character meals that would be utterly packed, and read about all the trouble other guests would have landing reservation for those meals. So it makes sense to satisfy guests by giving them what they really want -- what they're willing to pay for in droves.

I'm going to miss the gjetost and the mashed rutabaga and the pickeled herring. Luckily, I can pick all these things up at my local grocery now!
