Is there any character dining at Universal- either in the parks or in the resorts?

Stacey

Hey Stacey.

here is some info:

Don’t Miss the Character Breakfast at Islands Of Adventure!

Breakfast is not just the most important meal of the day…now it’s the most fun!

Bring the whole family and enjoy breakfast with Spider-Man™ and The Cat in the Hat™ at Islands of Adventure’s Confisco Grille®, each Thursday through Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The breakfast is $15.95 for Adults and $9.95 for children, plus tax and gratuity. Call 407-224-4012 for reservations.

We did this one before and it was really great. Good food and we went to the latest seating and most of the people were already gone and we had the characters to ourselves for a long time.

We did the breakfast in May and my 4yo DS loved Spiderman. He was really funny and seemed to enjoy playing the part. My DS, however, does not like costumed characters so he hid under the table when the others like Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and 2 came by. Oh well, we knew he would do that and were there for Spidey so it was all good. The food was pretty good too.

I believe there is also character dining at each of the three hotels. The characters are there on select nights only. I think there is one with Shrek, one with Scooby, not sure what the other is. If you check on the USO website, and click on the hotels, and then go to the hotel dining page, there is information about which restaurants the characters are at and which night. Hope that helps!

We did the Spiderman breakfast at Confisco Grille in May. The guy who was Spiderman was fabulous. He climbed on the backs of the booth and crouched in perfect Spidey fashion and generally thrilled any kid who had an interest in him.

Cat in the Hat was just a quick photo op for us, not much interaction.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 were very playful and fun. DS5 loved them.

All in all, it was a great experience.

Be advised, however, that the Confisco is a smaller restaurant than any of the character dining experiences at Disney. You can see the characters at all times and it doesn't take them very long to work their way around the room (except Spidey who makes sure he spends all the time that each child wants him to spend with them, so he is a slow mover... which is a great thing when it is your child's turn). The buffet spread, because of the space limitations, is not huge. Plentiful... all the breakfast basics are there... not disappointing... just don't go expecting every food you've ever seen. Also, they charge extra for milk and juice. That took me completely by surprise. If you've got little ones, ask for the drink prices when you call so that you will know what the final price for each meal will be.

They have fun with some of the food too. The pancakes are both regular and red (same flavor), so if you stack them in alternating colors they look like the Cat in the Hat's hat. The hash browns were star shaped (as in Star Bellied Sneetches, I guess). Really nicely presented.

Definitely a must do if your kids are into the characters!

you are correct, there are character dinners at each on site hotel.
also, different types of entertainment for children on other nights at the hotel.

check with the hotels for the schedules.

I got the annual passholders newsletter today and it talks about the Simpsons movie premier. There is going to be a Simpsons character breakfast for 2 days. I was wondering if anyone knows if they will keep this going after that or will it just be a one time thing.:confused3

Anyone know the cost of the dinners at the hotels? Also what is the menu, buffet or order off a menu? Thanks

I just called today. PBH (Tratatori...) and HRH have buffets for the character meals. RPH (Islands dining room) is off the menu at least for the Monday and Tuesday deals according to the lady. I know PBH is 29.00 for adults and 12.95 for kids. Not sure about HRH.

Hope this helps some. It is tough to get specifics about the menu at RPH. I just read it is very expensive, but good. One call to 407-503-1000, 2000, or 3000 should get you all the info you need.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information, we have eaten off the menu at RPH, the food was very good and a little on the high side.

Is that new for them to have more than Spiderman and Cat in the hat? We'd love to see Dora when we go in late Sept.

I'm not sure if it's new. I have a friend who works at PBH and this was the info she gave me when I asked her about character dining.

no, it was like that when i took my sons long time ago

Cool! I'll have to look at my old iten and see what day I went last time. We had Spiderman, Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and 2.

I called last week to make reservations for character dining. Seemed the only character dinner that fit into our schedule was a Thursday night (Aug 9), location: Hard Rock Hotel. The reservationist I spoke to said the character meal was held in HRH "The Kitchen" restaurant and you had to order directly from the menu. :confused3

I checked out the menu on-line and honestly I don't know if my girls would enjoy the food there all that much, so I may end up canceling anyway.

Sorry to disagree. My son is crazy with Spiderman. Last year we went to Universal and took him to the Confisco breakfast. I asked in the forum and the feed back I got was that the breakfast food was bad and the people I talked to did not recommend the breakfast. We decided to go for it because of my son.

It was HORRENDOUS. Food (IMO) was bad bad bad; there was only Spiderman, Thing 1, Thing 2 (my son knew nothing about the 2 Things, since we live in Spain (this applies only to us, I know). Spiderman was good. But since there were many opportunities of meeting him in the park we did not thought it was worth to spend our money in such a bad breakfast. Not that we went there for the food, but still....

No wonder why the place was almost empty.

Our son does not specially remember the breakfast. He met so many characters in the park that the breakfast was no high ligth. He could meet Captain America, Spiderman and all his superhero friends whose names I don't remember. That HE REALLY LIKED IT.

Just my two cents.
