When we've gone to Disney, we've always gotten "Disneyfied", as I like to call it, with Disney character paraphenelia. T-shirts, hats, fanny packs, etc.
However, when we go in March, my boys will be 10 and 12. What do you do for them?
My older one is a Pooh fanatic, but most of the pooh stuff I'm able to find is (a) juvenile or (b) feminine.
My younger one wore his cousin's Cruella de ville t-shirt, and he seemed to like that, when we were at DL last fall.
I wouldn't let them watch power rangers when they were younger, so they're not really into them.
I've found that Buzz and Stitch and Goof Troup just don't do it anymore.
What to do??
What do you do? Or have you seen in your family or friends or just at Disney?

I don't have sons your age yet, but perhaps pirates? I know there isn't a particular pirate, but I'm sure with Pirates of the Carribean there might be stuff out there. Maybe they can switch gears from collecting disney character stuff to more adult like disney things such as collecting pins. Some of the pins might have their "old" favorite characters but they would be doing something older. This gives them a chance to collect the things they still enjoy.

Perhaps the Villains, but what mine likes are things themed to the E-ticket rides; stuff from TOT, RNRC, SpMtn, Everest, etc.

I have boys who justed turn 11 and 12 (literally 1 and 2 days ago). My 11 year old still likes Mickey and he will wear shirts with Mickey doing whatever. My 12 year old had been a big Buzz fan, but he has informed us in the last year that he is now too old to wear Buzz shirts (we knew this was coming and were surprised that this had not occurred sooner). Have you looked at the Disney Store? They often have great sales (my kids have a slew of T's and I rarely have paid more than $3), and some of the disigns are rather subtle in mixing in a Disney theme or character. I let my guys pick out designs they like, and in all honesty it has not been hard for them to find things they like. Heck, even my dh still wears T's with characters, so they have good example in him.

My DS is 11 going on 12...he loves Stitch, so for him, anything Stitch will do.
But I know it is really hard with merchandise that is for the "Tween" ages.
He loves the Pirates stuff as well. We put a gift bag together for him last year for his Bday (we were actually on a Disney Cruise) of POtC fruit snacks,
chocolate gold coins, bottled waters, and other stuff that pertained to the cruise. But when we were in WDW, his favorite souvenirs were his Mickey watch (they have some really cool watches!), his Disney sunglasses (again, more mature) and Disney strap for his sunglasses, the clear see-through playing cards, a mini photo album and his trading pins (he really likes to collect rather than trade). He also used a disposable camera that someone gave him as a Bday gift.
We also loved all the Disney packaged snacks and candies that you can find at the park. They were a big hit with our kids and the snacks that we brought with us "went out the window".
We also gave our kids little homemade gift certificates that were redeemable for little trinkets or souvenirs at WDW...this way they can get what they wanted. They earned them by doing extra chores/excellent behavior, etc.

Have fun! :sunny:

We have boys who are 12 and 9 and I went to the Zazzle Disney shirt site and had them pick out characters that they thought were "cool". http://www.zazzle.com/collections/disneyinkshop/default.asp
There are several Mickey shirts that they liked. We all had Mickey surfer shirts this summer.

Also, the Disney store has some great classic type shirts where the characters look kind of like they were drawn. I got the older one Donald and the younger Stitch.

I say your never too old for disney. My dh wears goofy and tigger. He is 38. My son is 9(10 in December). He too thinks he is too old for some stuff. He still like cars and potc. He like goofy and tigger, I guess it is the content. I agree with the other people above. Let them pick out some they like. They will find something.

My stepson just turned 10 and he's not really into any disney characters like buzz or stitch. He thinks it's babyish. But he does love Star Wars, which is at MGM, and Pirates of the Carribean. So I figure i'd get him a couple of t-shirts. Oh yeah He likes Cars too. Probably a hat to go with the tshirts.

I think the pins are a great idea! DS9 loves collecting. He had a hard time finding character shirts he likes to wear but does enjoy wearing his lanyard. He also likes haunted mansion/ToT shirts. :hmghost:

Thanks all! I really appreciate all the feedback!! We're looking at different options for x-mas and stocking stuffers, and my thoughts were similar to others. So far, I've taken advantage of the clearance at Disney outlet this weekend and gotten Mickey flip flops for 1.99 for the older one (no pooh), Grumpy ones for DS2. For beach towels, I got the Pooh one for DS1 and Buzz for DS2 and princesses for DD. Was planning on buying pins, and fans and those light up thingys. Was hoping for fanny packs, too. Umbrellas/rain ponchos (I got DD a princess one.) For DS1, it's easy, Pooh Bear, as long as I can find something not too juvenile looking, for DD, it's easy, she's princess crazy. She also likes Stitch, Kim Possible and lots of other characters. I did send stepmom a link on ebay to a multi-villian t-shirt in black that I know that he will like. I did kind of press him a bit and asked what characters he liked and he said villians and Timon. I had thought there was no way to find Timon t-shirt/stuff, and then I got the link to Zazzle. Way cool, there's a Timon on there!
Thanks again, everyone. And keep the ideas coming!

I vote for the pirates too!!

There is quite a bit of pirates stuff out right now... shirts, figures, etc. etc. etc. There's an entired Pirate Room at WOD in Downtown Disney.....

What about the muppets? They tend to appeal to all ages. I tend to forget they are part of Disney now. DH wears a Beaker shirt all the time, and my DB was into Animal as a preteen/teen.
