Character Breakfast Timing

I'm taking my Mickey & Minnie obsessed 4 year olds on their first Disney trip this summer. I'm planning a day to recover from the drive (swim in the hotel pool, etc) before we hit the parks. So I want to do the Surf's Up Breakfast w/ Mickey that morning so they can meet Mickey & Minnie right away. I had planned to make a late morning reservation (so more like brunch/lunch) to miss some of the crowds but then I read a couple reviews/comments from people that said Minnie had left before they got there. So I'm looking for suggestions for the best time to avoid crowds but not miss any of the characters.

We had a 10:50 reservation on Tuesday (a Magic Morning- extra hour) and we saw every character, often twice. The characters stayed with her for a decent amount of time too. Also, the food was fresh and replaced as it disappeared.

The character meals were worth every penny in our minds!

I think in summer it is hard to avoid crowds, especially with the 60th celebration's going on. I would make it for earlier and just go. The nice thing about character meals are you stay at your table and the characters come to you (with the exception of the dance party where you can get up and join them at the Brekkie you are going to!!) You can also just sit back, drink coffee, take your time and relax since you are not headed to the parks that day!

Have a magical time!

Truthfully, I probably depends on the character's rotation or if something happens to the character that day. I've mentioned in the past that my group just missed seeing Minnie when we dined there and we had an 8:10 am ADR and were there until probably around 9:45 am or so. The park opened at 10:00 am that day. So, it's possible that she wasn't feeling well or something like that and had to leave early, rather than that being the "norm." In terms of seeing the characters, Mickey meet with you when you enter the restaurant (as you're being seated) and then the other characters come to the table (usually one at a time).

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. I guess I'll plan the best breakfast time for us and hope for the best with the characters. Since I know Mickey will be there greeting, I have some anxiety about my son getting a picture with Mickey and Minnie not being there for my daughter. Good to know that it isn't the norm for characters to leave early.

We ours set for 7:30 on our last trip. Wasn't aware at the time the park didn't opent til 10
