I have a couple questions. We will be doing 7 night western cruise on fantasy in April. Our kids will be dd15, ds 13, ds, 8.
1. When do they do the character breakfast and is it hard to get into to?
2. We would love to go to Remy one night for dinner, but should we let kids do dinner on their own? We have 2nd seating. Older kids are too big for kids club. Can they eat in dining room by themselves?

For the character breakfast: go to guest services and get tickets. That's where you find out which days and times are available. It should not be difficult to get tickets, unless you procrastinate.

Kids much younger than yours have gone to dinner on their own. The waiters love to spoil them.

Your older kids can go to the Edge and Vibe. Lots!!!! of fun. Make sure they go the first night so they get an input on the activities they will do for the week and it's a great time to meet new friends. Please encourage them to go. They will have a great time. My daughter still keeps in contact with kids she has meet on our cruises.

Yes they can go to dinner in the Main dining room by themselves or just pick up someting on the pool deck or order room service.

They will have a great time being by themselves for one night.

On the newer ships like the Fantasy the character breakfast had been on and off, do as others say go to guest services but until recently the Fantasty didn't do them. We were on the Nagic a week ago had a good CB with Mickeymed, Minnie and Pluto and goofy, we had to sign up for it, it was held in animators palate.

Remy we did eat there and let our teenage children eat in the MDR.

Not all cruises offer a Character Breakfast. It will be lisited in the Navigator (Newsletter) that you receive when you check in at the port, or you can download an app. It will be listed on the front page what charater events require tickets. As suggest before be sure to do this the day you board. Recently tickets have beeen gien out at the Port Adventures Desk not Guest Services.

Is the character breakfast usually only Disney junior themed?

It's relatively new on the Fantasy, but yes it has been Disney Jr. themed. We cruise with a toddler and I'm hoping this is a response to children under 6 being way under programed compared to school age kids.
