Has anyone been on the Disney version of this? I'm wondering what's included because, for the 3 of us, the difference in price between the version Disney offers, and us doing it ourselves, is almost $100US. What do you get for the extra cash? Lunch? Drinks? Mickey goes with you?

Have done the park twice. Never as a planned excursion. Just took a taxi and did my own thing. It's a beautiful park and you can arrange everything on site yourself. To be quite honest, the last time we went I had every intention of taking my monsters to do the hefty $$ swim with the dolphin thing. We started out in the water with a bag of dry dog food and never made it out of the water. In fact, my kids made tons of friends...teaching other kids to feed the fish out of their hands. It was an amazing, cheap day.

We are going to go there on our own. The DCL excursion is way over priced!!!!
If you add up what you get on it and then compare it to doing it on your own, you are much better off.

Here's our breakdown. Taxi is $10 per way per taxi. $20
Park admission (no shows) $12 each $36

Total $56 for 3

If we did it with DCL it would be $165 (This is for the Sea Lion show and snorkeling package). Even if we opted to add the animal shows it wouldn't come close!!!!

Here is a great site

http://www.caribbeanportreviews.com/CozumelChankanaab.htm

There are 3 different basic deals through DCL

Sea Lion Discovery-$40
Snorkel Package-$45
Sea Lion & Snorkel-$55

In my costs, I don't have to worry about the cost of snorkel equipment because we have our own. If you did it on your own and wanted to snorkel but didn't have equipment, you would have to rent so I don't know how much that is. It might make a difference overall.

To add the Sea Lion shows to our total of $56 is $30 more ($10 each) for a grand total of $86.

When looking on the site, I do not believe food is included with any of the DCL packages. It usually specifies if it does.

Just another note!!

If you do either of the snorkel packages, it appears that you only get 1 hour to snorkel. I'm not sure how that works, but it appears that you go with a guide.

We like to snorkel alot so we would not be happy if you are only allowed 1 hour.

So nobody's been and can tell me what's included in their deal for $45 a person?

We've been to Chankanab before, and can't imagine what could cost so much without meals or drinks or something. Do you get a limo there? Does Goofy drive? Is there a guided tour by Ariel? :rotfl2:

I think that what you get for the DCL package is a DCL "guide" type person going with you and the fact that you don't have to worry about money at the park. You are guaranteed that you will have whatever equipment you have rented....whereas if you go on your own, they might be "out" of it. You get the convenience of not having to figure anything out for yourself. You lose the ability to make your own schedule.

If your DCL package includes food or beverages, that will be specified in the description.

Do remember if you go on your own that they require cash for admission (or at least they used to!). Credit cards are fine after you are in the park. Seriously, I went to a tourist info place where they told me I could use a credit card everywhere, and when we got there, I almost did't have the $ to get it!

Disney makes a profit on each of the excursions you book thru them.
