Hi, Yes we ate there and did the buffet. It was my family of 5, my brother and my parents. Everything was clean. There was decent variety. We enjoyed the food and would do the same again.

Yes. It's a very popular tourist attraction. They're probably quite diligent about making sure that the food is good (safe) to ear. Wouldn't be good for business otherwise.

Any particular reason why you worry about food poisoning at this place? When I look at the bad reviews on tripadvisors, I see some people who didn't like the buffet vs menu, didn't like the food, or didn't think it was worth the money. I don't see anything that makes me think there should be something to worry about.

  • We did the dolphin excursion several years ago there, the buffet wasn't included when we did it. We did eat at the restaurant though(wasn't buffet when we did it) and the food was really good. There's 2 restaurants there, one you eat inside and one by the beach. We ate outside by the beach. We did get bottled water to drink while there.

We've actually stayed on Cozumel for about two weeks. Never had any issues with food poisoning, and we weren't 100% diligent about raw greens and ice either. Chankanaab is very nice and touristy with good food at the restaurant. Can't imagine you'll have a problem.

Ate at the buffet. It was good (but nothing special except the Cochinita Pibil that was great). No food poisoning or stomach bug. That being said, we always take probiotics (before, during, after) when we sail to Mexico.

We've gone to that part of Mexico several times. The last time we were there I was pretty horribly sick from the food at Xcaret (not Chankanaab but one of those similar tourist spots with a buffet). I would probably be a little more careful next time to avoid salads/uncooked items. I don't fault the food preparation, but as with any buffet I suspect there is a lot of contamination from other guests.

We stay on Cozumel 5 weeks per year. Headed back in 2 weeks. We have never gotten food poisoning anywhere that we have dined. We eat back in the neighborhoods even. I truly feel you will be just fine. Just don't drink water from the faucet. You can, however, have ice and water that the restaurants provide.
