I apologize, I know this has been discussed a million times, but due to lack of time, I'm asking again.

Thoughts? We have a 9 and 6 year old...

Thank you!!

Following because I have questions on this too. I'm wondering if my 3 year old grandson will be able to do the Dolphin encounter. On one spot on port adventures it says 5 and up and on the other it says 3 and up.

We did this on our own in December and LOVED it! We did the dolphin encounter and then a separate manatee encounter. The manatee encounter was more laid back and they allowed you to just hang with the manatees for over half of the experience. My daughter is 8, but the size of a 6 year old and needed held the whole time we did the dolphin encounter. The platform that you stand on in the dolphin area is a little deep and the small waves were a little hard to handle. They wanted you to stand on the platform at all times, but the waves kind of pushed you out, so you had to hold onto the side. It was just a tad difficult to hold onto the side and hold onto my daughter at the same time, but it was certainly able to be done. Pictures there were super expensive, so we passed. They really want you to buy them though! The sea lion show there was just okay. The pool is very nice. The beach area is small, but there is a ton of sand to play in near the snorkel area and beach chairs and umbrellas to sit under. There are also iguanas walking around, which was cool. The snorkeling was enjoyable, but difficult to first get out to b/c you have to go down some steps and the first area is difficult b/c of the waves. Once you get out, it's great!
If taking little kids, I would recommend taking sand toys. We liked it so much that we are going back next March and will do the manatee encounter again, snorkel, and explore some more of the park. It's a neat place! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Was there an age restriction for the dolphin encounter? Even if my grandson can't get in the water with them, I want to book this for the whole family. He and I can watch from the sidelines if need be. Spart02 did you book through Disney?

I saw a girl that was about 5 doing it, but I'm not sure on the official age policy. We cruised via Royal that trip and booked it on our own. We bought tickets from the website and just said that we were staying at a local hotel. The taxi rides are a fixed price, so that was super easy. It's about a 10 minute drive to the park from the pier. I would not book through Disney if I were doing it again. It was cheaper to book on our own and not stressful at all. We beat the crowds by doing it on our own too!

So taxis are readily available when you leave the park too? There's six of us so I'm assuming that would be two taxis. Did you have to specify a time for the dolphin encounter? How much were the photos? Sorry for all the questions.

Chankanaab was a nice day, wouldn't go back. Plenty to see and do and very easy to do on your own as the Taxi drivers sell packages that include tickets and free t-shirts. I wouldn't pay the Disney Port Adventures rate, and I wouldn't recommend the dolphin encounter at Chankannab for a 3 year old due to the way it's set up at that particular park (more waves and a less stable platform to stand on). I did the dolphin encounter with my son when he was 3yo in Grand Cayman (it was some kind of combo with the Turtle Farm across the street) and it was perfect. The dolphin traininer even helped out with my son (I think he was only about 38in at the time) and made sure we both got individual time with the dolphin (I had totally planned on holding him the whole time). I'd do the dolphins in Cayman rather than Chankanaab.

We left around 3:15, I believe and there were lines of people for the taxis. The taxis were coming constantly to get people. We ended up riding in a van taxi (they automatically combined our family and another, so a party of 6 wouldn't be a problem to ride together. We did specify a time for our dolphin encounter when we booked on their website, but when we arrived they asked if we would like to do the first time slot instead of the afternoon. We were super excited about that b/c then we could do our encounters back-to-back and have free time the rest of the day. Photos were SUPER expensive...but I don't remember specifics. Their website may have those details for you. I have also heard that if you walk away from the photo person at the end, that they may start bargaining with you. We slipped away quietly when the photo guy wasn't looking b/c we really didn't want to purchase any.

We did the dolphin encounter with a 3YO and it was a lot of fun. The pool and snack bar were okay but nothing special. I think you have to be older to do the swim with dolphins but I found the dolphin encounter to be exciting for kids and adults. Everyone wears a life vest so the fact that the platform was to deep for my 3YO to stand on was not really an issue. The pictures were crazy overpriced. We bought one 5x7 and it was $40.

We did it on our own and had a great time. DD was 9. We had an awesome time with our dolphins and it was really fun to see the manatee. We walked out, got in the line for the cabs, headed there, had our day, headed back via a shared as the cab that came was a van type. Really fun time that we still talk about.

For those of you that have done it on your own, can you please clear something up for me? Is the taxi fare round-trip, meaning you only pay on the way there? I'm wondering if we overpaid b/c we paid on the way back as well, even though it was a shared cab. The driver didn't ask for money, but my husband just handed her the same cab fare that we paid getting there.
