Has anyone gone on one of these excursions? Is this worthwhile and if it is should I book through the DCL or just do it one our own?

The Disney excursions for the Dolphin swim is at Chankanaab Park. Disney provides transportation and park entry included in their price. It's still more expensive then if you book directly and pay for park entry and cab fare yourself. Disney also will not offer the Dolphin Royal Swim, only the Dolphin Encounter. You can do the Royal Swim for about the same price disney charges for the Encounter.
Check out their site www.dolphindiscovery.com

We booked directly last year, and afterward we spent the rest of the day at the park. There is alot to do there also...Mark

We have done the Dolphin encounter and then did the Sea Lion show on the next cruise. The park has replica Mayan village, a nature type trail to walk. There is a place to swim and you can even rent a snorkle helmet thing to swim under water without scuba. We were glad we visited the park. We booked through Disney but there are many that book their own. This next cruise we are doing the mini golf at Sallys. pirate:

went to Chankanaab on our honeymoon....did not do an organized excursion...just took a cab from port.....definitely go snorkeling there!!!! outstanding !!!

I agree about the snorkeling and I think the park has lots to offer as well. We went on our own, and we'll be doing it again as we're going on a Carnival cruise in March.

I went in November without an organized excursion. The park fee was $12 per adult. The beach was great! We snorkeled, but they also rent snuba and scuba equipment. I brought my own equipment, and my mask was leaky, so one of the lifeguards let me borrow a rental at no charge. The beach view was gorgeous, and there were no vendors bothering us to buy something.

So if I do the Dolphin Royal Swim, is there something for my DS17 and his 17 year old GF to do while I am doing it??? If I go on my own and sign up for the Royal Swim, can they come to the park in the same transportation as myself and will it be hard to locate them when my excursion is done? I just dont want to lose them but neither is interested in playing with the dolphins. We originally talked of going to Playa Sol beach break but my son recently broke his hand and now cant climb the iceberg float. He will most likely have no cast but still wont be able to grip the iceberg handles so wont be able to enjoy it. That was one main reason we considered that beach. I would prefer to do the Royal Swim but just need advice on what and how I can get the kids to the park and still meet up with them. Also, I am overweight but not obese.....need to lose about 30 or so lbs....will this effect me being able to do anything with the dolphins??? lol Anyone???

Thanks in advance.....

Toopure4u- There is a beach for kids to swim, it's protected from the surf by rocks and a good sunning beach, there a restaurant/bar on the beach and other diversions like scuba diving. You should definately call and make your reservation prior to going, this excursion is very popular and sells out. The web address is listed above and it's a toll free call to set up your swim. All of the interactions with the dolphins, pulls, pushes etc. involves 2 dolphins and you. These animals will have no problems moving you in the water at all. It doesn't matter what you weigh!...Mark

We went to Chankanaab. I have done Disney excursions in the past and now prefer to book my on my own. You have much more freedom that way. There are a ton of taxis in Cozumel. You will have no problem getting back and forth to the ship and Chankanaab. Be sure to negotiate the price before you get in. Should be about $10.00 each way plus tip. I booked the dolphin swim through shoretrips.com and was very happy with their service. Our friend who is overweight did the swim and the dolphin pulled her back fine. The only thing is that the dolphin went lower in the water with her and she got a lot of water in the face! The video is hilarious. The dophins are very strong and seem to be having fun. The park has alot of things to do/see. If you want to find others in your party later just find a meeting spot and set a time. I would ride back together though so that you all know you made it back ok. Hope this helps.

You guys are the best....thank you so much for the advice. RKB your story had my crying laughing because I picture myself just like that....lmao....

Thanks again :)

Thanks for all your help. My DS doesn't want to swim with the dolphins, so it looks like we will be doing it on our own.
