I booked our Dec trip with AAA. Now I feel as though I need to change our resort/room due to some in-law issues. (We need a "in-law" Discussion group here).

Has anyone changed reservations with AAA? How much pain and suffering am I in for?

I never have booked through AAA, but I do book through my Travel Agent all the time. For me, when we've made changes, I just shoot her an e-mail or give her a quick call. She does the leg work, makes the changes and just sends me an e-mail confirmation.

Did you get a AAA discount???

If you did, then it's possible you won't have that discount on a changed reservation. A AAA discount is not automatic; it's not like having a coupon. Disney only allows the AAA discount on each type of room at each resort until that room category reaches a certain super secret occupancy rate for your dates of travel. In other words, if they've already sold enough rooms, they find no need to continue to offer a discount, since they'e already selling well enough.

It's important to realize this is based on percentage rather than an exact number. Some people think that if they cancel their AAA-discounted reservation, they can just make another AAA-discounted reservation since the cancellation leaves one newly available. This is not the case.

Hypothetical example: Caribbean Beach Resort has 384 rooms in its Preferred Location category. Let's say that Disney only allows the AAA discount until the occupancy rate hits 80% or higher (I have no idea what the actual percentage is). This means that after 307 of those rooms are reserved, the AAA discount is no longer available. If 350 are already reserved and you cancel, that still leaves 349 of those rooms rented, well above the 307 threshhold; you would not be able to rebook with the AAA discount.

More info that you need ... I know that. I'm just trying to draw a picture for you to understand how the AAA discount stuff works.
