Changing which year points are used from?

Need some advice in advance of making my first DVC booking please!

We have points in the current year (2015) which will expire at the end of July.

We're hoping to get in at 7 months out at the Grand Californian, booking for October - if we do we'd want to bank these 2015 points to use them up.
If we don't get in, we may not want to bank these points, so I don't want to bank in advance of securing the booking.

So my query is, can we book into the Grand Californian pre-banking (which I assume by default will use points from our 2016 allowance), and then call Member Services after securing our booking to then bank our 2015 points and switch to use these up instead, freeing back up our 2016 allowance?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Points have to be banked during the first 8 months of your UY. Availability at GCV is one of the most difficult to get even at 11 months.

If your use year is August, you would have to bank 2015 points to use them in October 2016. You would have to bank by March 31.

Yes, MS can do that for you after you book.
