I have always phoned in my reservation requests instead of making them online.

I made my first reservation online last month. I want to change the dates and I can see they are available. Is is possible for me to change it online or do I need to phone it in tomorrow?

Some of the points are borrowed in. Not sure if that would make a difference.

Do I just cancel the one I have a rebook?

If all your dates that you want to change to are available then I'd just cancel what you have and rebook what you want. If it requires some of the days you already have booked that you need to keep because they aren't available otherwise then you'll need to call. When you go to rebook the system should use any borrowed and banked points first then use current points and then if you need more it will ask if you want to borrow more.

If you do it online, I would suggest you use another browser to book. When you have the reservation locked, use your other browser to cancel the existing. Then when you complete the new reservation, you'll have access to all the points you just freed up without risking losing the new reservation between freeing up your points and rebooking. Yes the risk is small, but there nonetheless.

It's a little more complicated than that.

I would be careful about doing this. I have lost reservations a few times trying this. The website has kicked me out of my account when I tried to go back to complete the new reservation in the other browser window. If it happened only once, I would have thought it was a fluke but I have tried it a few times. You sign back in but you won't be able to get that reservation back until it comes out of the 20 minute holding pattern.

The short answer is no, you cnanot modify existing reservations online.

You can book an additional reservation and then cancel the original (if you have enough points), or you can cancel the original (risking availability) and book the new. But, similar to other hotel booking sites, modifications are not really allowable. It's be great if you could add days to the end easily. We will often stay for 8-10 nights, so always book the first 7 online then call to add the rest.

My guess is they don't want to give to much flexibility here otherwise people may book way in advance of what they want and just keep sliding it along.

We had a few good improvements to the website since I got my membership, but yet being able to modify a reservation online is the biggest thing missing. Being able to add or remove a day at the start or end of a reservation shouldn't be that difficult and it would probably free many calls to MS. Savings (and improved service) would repay the development cost really quickly.
