I am booking our trip for November for POFQ on Thursday so I can do my dining reservations at the 180 day mark. I am hoping that WDW will announce free dining for fall sometime this summer. If they do offer free dining I think I can cancel my original trip and re-book with free dining. If I do this will I lose my dining reservations or can customer service transfer my dining reservations to our new reservation. I'd love to be able to save some money but I don't want to lose my dining reservations.

You do not have to have a resort reservation in order to make dining reservations at 180 days. The only benefit having the reservation gets you is the 180+10.

If you change the days of your visit, the dining reservations cannot be transferred to your new reservation and you will have to cancel the reservations that you made and then rebook the reservation for the correct days (pending availability of course).

You don't have to cancel your reservation. You can simply have Disney apply the discount to your reservation. It also should not affect your ADRs. You should be able to keep them regardless of your resort reservation.

No it will not affect your ADR's. Your ADR's are not linked to your reservation. Anyone can make them at 180 days out having a reservation just let's you do the +10

Sort of -- this is assuming that you booked a package and are applying the discount to a package OR that you booked a room only and are applying the discount to a room only.

If you booked a room only and want the discount applied to a package then you will need to cancel and rebook and the same things vice versa, if you book a package and want the room only discount then you have to cancel and rebook.

But the other posters are correct none of this should affect your dining reservations. The only issue with the dining reservation is if your dates change in order to get a date specific discount.
