Hi....this will be the third change in resort since my husband and my parents began planning this so-called vacation. I don't think my wedding was planned as seriously!

Anyway....I know nothing about views. I really don't care what I'm looking at. I don't want to be near the lobby....especially over the Whispering Canyon. I'd also like to not face the pool. I'd be perfectly happy facing the parking lot in one of the wings. How do I ask for this? I'm assuming parking lot view is standard view, correct? What, specifically, do I ask for to be away from the lobby? Are there names to the wings? Do I just say "I'd like to look at the parking lot and be a long hike from the lobby."???

I just returned from the WL on Saturday. We stayed in a woods view room on the north wing. I had requested a quiet room and was given # 3018 which was halfway down the hallway, away from the elevators and vending machines.

The north wing is good distance away from the lobby and closest to the boat dock. Also had very easy access to Roaring Forks for those early morning mug refills.

The room was great and really peaceful. We even got the added bonus of being able to see the Magic Kingdom fire works (partially obscured by the trees) from our balcony.

The standard view rooms are fairly close to the lobby area as they overlook the parking lot and loading docks which are at the front of the resort.

You should book a woods view room. As far as I know , all of the standard rooms are right off the lobby. There might be a couple somewhere else. A woods view room will get you farther away from the lobby and should be a mellow spot.

The Woods View room was about $200.00 more expensive - not per night, total visit. I guess it's worth it if I'd be miserable all day having to listen to the thump-thump and screaming of the Whispering Canyon.

Would the reservation people be able to tell me if there are Standard View rooms in the North Wing? It sounds like the North Wing is where I want to be. I don't care what I look at, as long as I can lay in my room and be quiet when I've had enough of people, noise, etc. I take frequent breaks back to the room to regroup, relax and get back in the spirit when the crowds, etc. get to me.

I'm looking forward to staying there for the first time...especially during the holiday season.

Thanks for the advice! :D

We stayed in a woodsview room last month. From the posts on this board I learned about the otter pond (DD loves animals). Anyway, I requested that view and we got room 2012. We we about 1/2 way down the corridor so far enough away from the elevators not to be bothered by them. The elevator brought us just outside Roaring Fork, the pool and the boardwalk to the boat launch. The only downside was that we were there during grad nights and could here the noise from MK. But on regular nights it wasn't a problem. Have a great trip.
:)

There are standard rooms, in the North wing, but they are directly over Whispering Canyonm they look out over the service areas. The standard rooms in the South wing are over the check-in (directly across the lobby from Whispering Canyon) and look out over the peaks of the roofs and the parking lot. So, if you truly want a quiet room, and not look at the pool, you want a woods view. The woods views are located further down the wings than the standard views, away from the lobby.

Not all the standard rooms on the north side are over or near Whispering Canyon! There are many standard rooms down the corridor of north side that are closer to the boat launch. They do face parking lot and loading zone, along with the smokehouse!

My DH and I stayed in a standard room on the north side of the resort when we were at the WL in 2000. It was on the 5th floor (#57__ (I can't remember exactly) and we had a view of some trees. I saw a parking lot behind those trees when we were walking to our own car in the guest lot, but couldn't see the parking lot through the trees from our window. I don't remember hearing noise from the lobby or Whispering Canyon but we were not in the room much during the day. We were a short walk from the elevators on the opposite side of the lobby.

We just got back from the WL on Saturday. We had a woods view room - North wing, 5th floor. I can't quite remember the directions of it all but I believe if we went past the elevators, there were standard rooms overlooking the loading/unloading area that were nowhere near the lobby. If you request a higher up room, you won't be able to see the loading area, only trees. You may, however, hear the beepbeep of trucks or such, I'm not sure.

I guess you need to decide whether to gamble on a 'good' standard room or spend the $200 to assure a quiet woods view. Standard was sold out when we were there so we didn't have to make that decision. I can tell you we loved our room. It was fun to watch for the otters, we had a great view of the fireworks, and it was sooooo quiet and peaceful.

I'm going for the Woods View....$200. is a small price to pay to be (somewhat) sure that I won't be miserable with noise. I'm not much of a "view" person, but it's not about the view, it's about the quiet and I'm willing to spend the extra money to get the quieter room.

I'm going to book it right now so I don't miss out.

I think I've said this before, but I'm really excited about staying there for the first time. It's been a while since I've stayed at a "new" resort - new to me. I hear it's beautiful during the holiday season, as well.

Thank you to everyone who helped!

We were there last month for our first stay at WL. We were in a standard room on the 6th floor, room 6132, LOVED IT! The elevator was right outside our room as well as the ice machine. I thought we may hear alot of noise from the elevator, but we never did. Our balcony view was of the WLV and the pool. I can not wait to go back and would request this same location.
Have a wonderful trip!

I stayed in a standard room at WL a few years ago, and it was super noisy early in the morning -- construction work or something equally annoying. Standard view again in July, but this time I am bringing my white noise machine -- I've become totally addicted and can't sleep without it. Hopefully this will drown out any banging and beeping.
