Changing to off site with theme park reservations?

Has anyone tried this yet?

We had booked with free dining for December and I can’t seem to justify the price of the Art if Animation suite without free dining. All Star Music isn’t open that also has the suites, so can’t change to a less expensive option with the large family. Wondering if anyone has dropped their resort reservation after making their theme park reservations and not had issues with their park reservations canceling? I’ve searched and haven’t seemed to find answers on Dis. Apologies if I’ve missed it. Anyone know?

If you purchased a package, I believe your tickets and park reservation will disappear with your package cancellation. I seem to remember that my Free Dining was a package that included tickets, but that was a long while ago.

Since the Park reservation seem to be in three groups, resort guest, AP, and regular ticket holders, I would just check and make sure that your dates are available for a regular ticket holders before dropping your resort reservation.

We are only a party of 2 scheduled for a 7-night stay at Pop Century in November. But with the loss of some many Disney perks, it makes me consider moving to an off-site timeshare and purchasing tickets from UC Tourist? We will have a car. So doing the parking math of (parking fees for off-site guests) minus (parking fees for staying at PC) [(7*25) - (7*15) = 70] results in us paying $70 more. For a 7-night stay, I'll be saving $590 just on lodging, tickets, and Disney parking with the off-site option. Add in eating outside the Disney bubble, and the savings jumps drastically. I probably will wait until my 60 day mark, and see how park reservations are for off-site ticket holders. We love staying on-site within the Disney bubble, but "money talks".

I asked the same thing on another thread, but no answers. We arrive 7/20, with a split stay. Happy to stay at Pop for the first 4 nights then move offsite to a pool home and save money with more space! We have 10 day tickets and are there until 7/31. I was just deciding if I should do it and cancel and see what happens but I don't want to lose my park reservations. It may not even happen and even if it does maybe I can rebook those days...wish someone would post with a good experience doing this!!

Hi Julie, we did end up doing this very last minute, actually while we were there. We had the first 4 nights at Pop and ended up cancelling the second part of our split stay while there. I cancelled one night at first just to see if we would lose a reserved park day. We did not. Since we've stayed in Windsor Hills several times, I'm familiar with how it all works and contacted an owner I'm familiar with who had the dates we needed. Also, I wasn't too worried as all parks were still showing green and I guess I would've just rebooked them if they were cancelled. It didn't hurt that they were under capacity and opening up to APs so that may be why they weren't canceled. So not sure if this will still be the case when you go in December.
The resort experience just wasn't the same, understandably so, and we found the house with our own pool to be much more enjoyable. We've mostly stayed at the Contemporary which we love but I didn't want to spend that kind of money in these times. I had taken 2 of my teens in early Feb. and we stayed at Pop to experience the Skyliner, which we also loved, so that's why we kept that reservation. As others have said on the Pop thread, the vibe just wasn't the same so I'd rather pay $200/night to have a 6 bedroom house with a pool then the same or more to have a small room with no perks at this time. We will return to resorts when they are back to normal.
