are any of you going to change shoes for the reception or for the after party? I am trying to figure this out because I only really like 4 inch heels or 3 1/2 inch heels but I will not be able to stay in them the whole night my feet will kill me. I want to change into some converse or something but it makes it hard to figure out what to do with my dress when it comes to alterations. any suggestions?

I had the exact same thought today. I am interested to know as well

I normally wear heels so will likely wear them all night, but if my feet hurt I'm kicking them off and dancing barefoot! lol
All the weddings I've been to, it's usually later in the night when the bride takes her shoes off or changes (after dinner?) and just from observing, I think most brides just hold their dress up. Not sure what kind of dress you girls have and how heavy they are, but I'd go for comfort over worrying about the bottom of the dress after formal pictures are done! :goodvibes

I bought white sparkly TOMS for the reception. I would never be able to last all night wearing heels

i am a tennis shoes girl all the time! You are probably right about not worrying about the bottom of the dress but it is not me it is my mom.

I wanted to do something like that with converse or something I am just concerned about the dress dragging too much

I wore 4 inch pumps for the first 9 hours of the day (and planned on wearing them all night), during pictures, ceremony, and reception. By the after party I wanted to die, so I kicked off the heels and changed into ballet slippers. Tons of people stepped on my dress during the after party, and it even ripped in a few places. So if you are doing anything late night and need your dress for an MK shoot or in pristine condition, you might wanna stick with one pair of shoes for the night. If you are planning on wearing heels at all, definitely have the gown altered with them on, so that your dress doesn't appear too short. If you already know that you will be taking your heels off early in the night, it might just be easier to skip them altogether. Hope this helps!!!

I wore 4 1/2 inch heels then changed into platform flip flops right after the ceremony. I got the flip flops from one of the bridal places online. I took them with me for alterations, along with my shoes, and the flip flops were 3 1/2 inches so my dress barely dragged. It was sooo comfy!

the high heel flip flop idea is great. it sounds sooo comfy

if you are doing a photo shoot the next day consider changing into a different gown or outfit for the reception, one that can be worn with comfy flats

if it's important to keep the dress pristine, change into another outfit.

I am worried about the same thing! My fiance is like 6' 2"-6'3" and I am a flat 5' so I definitely need HIGH heels! I was debating on changing into a short dress for this issue alone. Any better ideas, I am open for suggestions!

I won't be doing a photoshoot after the wedding is done with. I do have a short dress I could change into though.

I had 5 inch heels for the ceremony and photos after, my feet were killing by the reception, I then swapped to 2.5 inch wedges, I didn't even notice if my dress was dragging on the floor. For the at home reception I just wore my croc wedges which I only about 2 inches and I could dance fine etc. My dress got a bit dirty but underneath so nobody could see.

I say go for platform flip flops. That's what I wore for our Poly Beach wedding--mainly because I was concerned about the sand and walking all the resorts for pictures. Best decision ever. For a bigger wedding... I would get your fancy-amazing shoes, then get a pair of tall flops to keep your dress from getting tore up!

I actually have 3 pairs of shoes to wear! I have a pair of 4 inch heels for the pre-wedding pictures, a pair of flip-flops for between pictures and to the wedding pavilion and a pair of "Toms" for the ceremony & reception!
What can I say....I LOVE shoes! princess:

I'm a dancer and I'll be taking a pair of my "practice" dancing shoes. They don't have much of a heel, but are comfortable and easy to dance in!

I wore amazing hot pink 4 inch heels for the ceremony and pictures and then changed into hot pink flats when I got to the reception. My dress didn't need to be hemmed for the heels, it was perfect length. When I bustled it and changed into the flats it kind of dragged but wasn't a problem. We had our reception at Ariel's so the dragging didn't make the dress dirty or anything.

I did this! I wasn't married in WDW (we tried, some guests couldn't go, so long story sort we just honeymooned there)

I'm 5'10" and unbelievably clumsy, so heels are not a thing for me. But I got cute Kate Spade (and I'm cheap - they were not full price) heels with short inch and a half heels on them for the ceremony.

And then for the reception I ordered converse! I wear converse all the time anyway, so I did the 'make your own' and got pink ones with pink hearts on the inside lining and on the stripe on the back. I LOVED THEM. They were a huge hit at the reception when we came out to Whole Lotta Love (Led Zeppelin!).

You can kind of see the hearts on the inside in this picture.

As for the dress, I didn't have to have the length altered but if you have to, I would definitely have it altered for your heels and then deal with the extra length once you switch to chucks.

(And we still managed to bring Disney to the wedding):

I will likely be wearing heels for the ceremony and orange chucks for the reception. :)
