Just when I thought I knew it all! My understanding was that if you changed or cancelled a ressie less than 30 days your points go into holding and can only be used to reserve a stay 60 days or less ahead of time until your use year ends. Then I read in the new Guidebook that if you change to a higher point reservation in this time frame, than you are okay- only if you switch to a lower point ressie do your leftover points go into holding status. We have ressies 12/29/01 - 1/3/02. We are still on a wait list for a 1 or 2 BR on 12/29 (holding a studio) and a 2 BR on 12/31 (currently holding a 1 BR). I'm stuck on the semantics of all this. If the wait list comes through after 31 days, I will be changing to a higher point ressie, however I will be cancelling the studio and 1 Bedroom. So my question is how DVC interprets this rule- does this change refer/apply to a wait list clearing, or to changing your ressie when a room is currently available? In other words, do I need to cancel the WL at 30 days out and just call every day to make a switch or will they let me change to a larger room without penalty if the WL clears. Seems like a silly distinction, but want to make sure I get this right. TIA! Karen

Not sure what you are referring to in the guide. The rule as I understand it is that if you cancel 31 days or more out then points go back to your regular account. If you cancel 30 days or less before date of arrival (not "less than 30 days" as you mention) then any points on the ressie go into a holding account and must be used by end of use year for a ressie made 60 days or less before arrival. If all you are doing is calling to change the existing ressie for the same time period to a higher point room, then there is really no issue as you are using the points for the same trip but just adding more. In other words it matters not whether the process is cancel and rebook because you are using the points (even if they could be considered holding account points) as required -- by making a ressie within 60 days before date of arrival.

Also understand that the waiting list you are on ends 30 days before your desired date. In other words if you are not called by that time you will no longer be on any waiting list. Thus, you will have to call thereafter for any availability

I did mean 30 days or less, thanks. I am on a 7 day wait list for the 2 BR- so that's what I wondered if it comes through will they transfer the points or put them in holding. Thanks for clarifying- it is a moot point as you noted that the ressie is 60 days or less. Somehow I missed that logic! The changing policy is on Pg 33 of the new guidebook- I don't remember if there was anything in the old one about changing- probably another thing I missed!
