Changing Reservations As Better Offers Become Available?

I’m really confused and would appreciate some input. We’ll be staying 12 nights in a Preferred room at CBR August 9-August 21. I have August 9-16 booked with the 4 for 7 special. I have a separate reservation for 5 nights (August 16-21) booked at the Rack rate (5 nights=$922.20). We have APs that we can use thru 9/17 and we have a 1 day ticket from the 1st week package to use on our last day (August 20) so we’ll have 2 days without park tickets, one of which will be an evening at LaNouba and Downtown Disney.

If I change the 5 night Rack rate to FD, then I’ll need to purchase two additional one day base tickets (total for Preferred room and tickets with FD=$1138.75) – definitely a better deal than Rack rate. I prefer to get a General Public discount for the extra 5 nights if one becomes available. The rate in January ’09 during the Value season for a Preferred room at a Moderate resort was $119/night (5 nights=$630.70).

My fear is that if I change from Rack rate to FD, and then try to change to a room only discount later, that I won’t be able to get a room for 5 nights at CBR. Would changing from a room only Rack rate reservation to FD require a new reservation? Would changing from a FD package to a GP discount be another new reservation? Or would I be safer to keep the Rack rate room only reservation and (hopefully) just add the GP discount code to that reservation (if and when it becomes available)? :confused3

Each new discount requires a new reservation. The same resort and room type might or might not be available with that new discount. In other words, having an existing reservation does NOT guarantee that you can get that same room with the new discount. Essentially you're starting from scratch each time.

There is a good likelihood of an Annual Passholder and/or general public room-only discount for your dates. Based on last year, those rates probably won't become available until June, however, and there is NO guarantee that you'll be able to get the resort and room type you want at that time.

I was just able to change my reservations for Sept. that I originally used a 40% code with to the FD offer. They did not have to re-do my reservations or anything they just changed the prices of everything. I also had them change my son's child ticket to an adult ticket so he could get the full dinning plan. There were no problems.

good luck. :goodvibes

Yes, they can sometimes convert a package to a different package, but in the OP's case she's talking about going from room only to a package to room only again. That will DEFINITELY require new reservations.

In any case, even going from one package to another requires that the new package discount is available for the dates, resort and room type you want. If not, you can't convert it.
