Changing reservation ?

My kids school has not released next school year calendar yet.

I am trying to decide if we want to do the week before Christmas again or take 2 days off from a short week w/ teacher workdays. This date changes every year, but is usually at the end of Jan.

What would happen if I go ahead and book Dec. 16-23'11 and then later when the calendar is released change it to a week in Jan.?
I would be using half Apr'11 UY & Oct'11 UY pts. It would only be 3 pts. less for Jan.

You should be fine. Both December 2011 and January 2012 fall within the 2011 use year for both contracts.

No penalty as long as you make the change at least 31 days prior to your check in date of 12/16/2011. All the points used for the trip will go back into their original use year (either April 2011 or October 20122). Then you can tell the CM which points to use to book the January 2012 trip. (I assumed you will not be using banked or borrowed points and so will be only using points from your 2011 use year).

The only thing to remember (besides making the change at least 31 days in advance of the December trip) is that canceling the January trip will mean you have to use any points from the April contract prior to March 31, 2012. The banking deadline for the April contract is the end of November. You'd be able to bank the points from the October contract though, since that use year's banking deadline is the end of May.

So, even if I had to wait until say Aug '11 - if I had to cancel Dec'11 res. and bank the points I would be ok.

Last year I booked a Vets day week trip. My DS has gone to that school 8 years. And on the calendar given at registration in Jan. they had that day off like usual. Well guess what. They changed the calendar by the time school started in Aug. Too late for me to change the trip.
