Going on a cruise in April with my gf and her son. Made our port adventure reservations when the booking windows opened (couldn't do it right at midnight, ended up waking at 4:30am & did them). Unfortunately there was only one time available and two spots left, so I gave them to gf & son.

I'm guessing there are chances spots might open due to cancellations. My question is...what's the best way to try and change so we can do the port adventure together and not risk losing the spots (it appears the only way to register others for the change is cancel the reservations first to make them available)?Or is my assumptions wrong and just have to accept we'll be doing separate things that day (we'll be in the same area, just two different activities)?

TIA

This is my second Disney cruise & second overall (first with her & son) so I have the tiniest iota of experience. I figured out why I was able to get everything on the first one despite an earlier booking window this time: covid protocols & a smaller ship means less guests and more spread among the excursions.

As for time together, We're the type where of course we want to spend time with each other but a little time apart on vacation doesn't hurt anything either. Her son would be bummed so I took the hit. The answer is the port adventure is available outside of Disney. And honestly the only reason I book through them is not needing to worry about travel arrangements.

So I'll look into that as an option (especially since my gf is a total extrovert so she can deal with navigating & grabbing the taxi 🤣). If we do this, it will be the first time exiting the a cruise line bubble for an excusion so any advice that isn't obvious would be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice.

We rarely do excursions outside the Disney bubble. The main reason is, depending on the length or location of the destination , we don't want to miss the ships boarding time. If you do the excursion with DCL they are responsible for getting you back and will wait if it is late unlike if you do it on your own. Less stress as far as I'm concerned.

Definitely one of the concerns I've had. But the actual activity is only an hour and no tender required, I think we'll be fine as long as the reservation is early enough. But I will keep aware of this. Thanks

So I was able to get the adventure outside of Disney. It's the Sea Lion Swim at Coral World in St. Thomas. The time I got was 11:15am.

I'm guessing this should be late enough on the off chance the boat is delayed in docking while still getting to to pur appointed time but early enough to get back to the ship on time. Thing I'm probably most paranoid about is possibly not taking into account the hour time zone difference afterwards...😅

You'll be fine outside the bubble! Have a great excursion and make sure your time devices are on local time. Outside the bubble is often cheaper and more variety:)
