When we bought - on a cruise a year ago - we were certain we heard the presenters say that points required for stays WOULD NOT CHANGE. Well, lo and behold, they do! We thought that when we bought and it took 34 points for a two-bedroom at Boardwalk Villas, then in 35 years from now, it would still take 34 points to stay at a two-bedroom at Boardwalk Villas. Prices for points would go up, but the number of points to stay somewhere would not. That's one of the reasons we really liked the idea of DVC. Can anyone clarify this?:sad2:

The overall number of points at a resort CAN NOT change. However, points can be reallocated within a particular resort. If you look at total number of points to stay for a week, it should be exactly on in some cases and within a point or two in others. All DVC did was make the Sun-Thurs nights more points and lowered the point totals for Fri-Sat nights.

There are probably 2500+ posts about this starting in Jan 2009. I ithink the main thread is on the mousecellaneous board.

well, this thread is about to be locked...

as arthur06 pointed out, you unfortunately misunderstood the rule about points not changing. the cost for any given night in any given room can be increased, so long as the total points for the year at the resort do not change.

here is the thread where this question can be discussed and has already been answered numerous times:

The number of points they have for each resort in total doesn't change, but they can re balance how many points it takes to stay in a certain room. But if they make one night more points they will have to make another night lower points, because the points still all have to add up to the same whole amount. I have looked at the charts I have for BWV since 1998 and they have not changed a bit, but they are changing in 2010. I haven't looked at the 2010 chart, but I believe I read they are making week nights higher points, but they are lower points for weekends. That is re balancing.

This is the second time that the points have been reallocated at Old Key West. The first time it was favorable to us. This time, not so much.

When a DVC resort is created, there are a certain number of "points" associated with that resort. That number of points can never increase or decrease, but can, as we have seen by the 2010 point charts, be reallocated.

I hope that clears up some of the misunderstanding.
